Typical alt.tv.southpark response to a bad episode

"OH NO! South Park had a bad episode!!!! That MUST mean the show is dead! Finished!! Kaput!!!!! Matt and Trey have lost their touch and everything! It's over! The end! Whine, whine, whine, complain, complain, complain!!!"

Come on, give it a rest, pals. I don't think you can name one successful TV show in the 40+ year history of television that never had bad episodes or made a few mistakes. If you're going to be a fan of something, I suggest sticking with that which you're a fan of, through good and bad.

(BTW, this isn't intended as a flame. I'm just commenting truthfully on what I've observed here. And yes, I agree that the AFD joke was a big "screw-me-over," but I'm still willing to let SP hopefully redeem itself in the future)

I haven't seen the episode yet, but will watch it just to see what happened. I'm just waiting for the RealVideos to come out, as that's my only source of SouthPark.

I can say one thing...over-popularity will eventually kill South Park. It happened with Ren & Stimpy, it happened with Beavis & Butthead, and its going to happen to South Park....eventually.

In the case of B&B, I think they were discontinued because Mike Judge wanted to concentrate on King of the Hill. As for R&S, I don't know about overexposure, but I think they were killed by Nickelodeon taking it away from Spumco and turning it into a watered down, unfunny shadow of its former self.

IMO, the only thing overpopularity will do is make SP more prone to bashers and the butt of more jokes. (like a certain Thursday night sitcom about six twentysomethings did three years ago) That doesn't always mean it has to decline in quality, although people becoming annoyed by seeing them everywhere will hurt. I dunno, I guess I just think it's whether or not we enjoy it that counts.

Agreed.....it will also draw more and more "casual" fans.....I don't think SP is really for anyone with a "fair-weather" taste in TV. People who feel compelled to never watch SP again probably weren't the type of audience Trey and Matt wanted to reach anyway...
