That *was* a really disturbing moment. I've been wondering about that too. But now I want to see Freaks!

It was a reference to a wonder 1930's movie "Freaks", which was about this bitch who married a circus midget for his money (?) and was avenged by his circus friends, who turned her into a chicken lady (I think).

The scene in question occured during the reception, with the freaks' unusual way of introducing the woman into their family.
