Good news: The tyrannical leader of Syria, Hafez al-Assad, recently dropped dead.
Bad news: He is succeeded by his son Bashar, who (according to Maclean's magazine) is a big Phil Collins fan.

Well, it looks like there still will be one place left on the planet for Phil (and his Oscar) to perform in.
Say, that reminds me. Do you think Phil uses his Oscar for sex like Mr. Garrison does with Mr. Hat? :)
All the phil collins fans have to realize that phil's only good song was "in the air tonight" and that all his other stuff was/is dreck.

Do you know that both Pete Townshend and John Entwistle of the Who thought enough of Phil's drumming ability to consider him as a possible replacement for Keith Moon?
Talk to me again after you've sold 100 million records, okay... buttface?

One's instrumental skills have nothing to do with their songwriting or producing ability. Eric Clapton is a talented guitarist, but his songwriting sucks. (Fun fact: two of Eric's most poorly-engineered albums,"Behind The Sun" and "August", were produced by PC!)
Why are people here so quick to jump onto the anti-Phil Collins bandwagon, just because supreme cult leader Trey Parker has condemned him as the devil incarnate? How did the whole animosity between the two of them ever transpire in the first place? It was mentioned in an article I read that Phil has been calling and bugging Trey about his Oscar win every week since Academy Awards night, but I somehow find it hard to believe that he would be so classless and immature enough to do so without any provocation.
Although I agree with just about everybody here that "Blame Canada" was more deserving of the Oscar win than the Collins snoozer, I would expect Trey to handle the defeat with more class. Unless Trey has a good explanation of the situation, it does not look good on him, making himself appear to be a sore loser, bashing Collins so much after his Oscar defeat.
Anyways, unless somebody fills us in with what really happened, we'll have to dismiss them both--as brilliant and legendary as they are in their respective art--as a couple of petty fools with big egos childishly throwing insults back-and-forth at each other.
Bullshit. Though you can argue that Mr. Collins has above-average drumming ability and was, overall, a better artist in the early Genesis years, not having made any CDs personally or played with Genesis (or any other band even) does not disqualify one from judging quality.
Using your logic, I could argue that no one is qualified to vote unless they have held a political office, or that no one can judge whether something tastes good unless they are a chef. Etc.

Well, I am a trained composer, an editor of music and a music historian, and can say that based on my extenive knowledge of around 800 years of Western music, Phil Collins' music, especially that crappy Oscar-wiener song, IS PURE SHIT.
I'd rather listen to "Einstein on the Beach" twice w/o a break than his crap.
I'd rather listen to Webern's cantatas as recorded by Robert Craft, or a bad live tape of "Lulu," or even the complete Stockhausen's "From the 7 days" (of dog waste) than that CRAP.
Because those things don't pretend to be something they ain't, like his shit does -- "I'm SOOOOOOO sincere! I'm touching your heartstrings, aminot?"
Put him next to a REAL TALENT like Magister Perotin, or Guillaume de Machaut or Landini, or someone a little more modern such as Charles Ives (even the Yale days' stuff) or Arvo Part and watch him WITHER AWAY LIKE THE FOOL AND SECOND-RATE HE IS!
Shit, evem "Jesus K. Reist Superstunted" (by that waste of oxygen ALW) is better than his late crap!

Gee, tell us what you -really- think! I liked parts of the "Chess" sound track.
Shit dude, even BURL Ives can kick Phil Collins' ass, music-wise.
I once saw a BBC comedy about the explanation of why ALW's tunes sound SO very similar to classic works composed by earlier artists (such as the way the opening notes to "Memory" from CATS sounds just like the opening notes to "Bolero"). The explanation was that all these old dead dudes got a hold of a TARDIS, traveled to the future (our present time), and went back with a buttload of ALW's song sheets and started ripping HIM off.
I thought Collins simply stole all his melodies from Pergolesi and Hugo Alfven.
Live and learn.
No, he borrows. There's a big difference. Stravinsky said, "'Good' composers 'borrow,' but great composers steal"! I think Collin's brain would fry over Pergolesi. I also think he steals ideas that that dolt "Sir" McCartney even has too much sense to not use! ("Standing Stone" -- now there is a true waste of air!)
Let's see -- who are the "popular names" these days ... Collins ... McCartney ... Laurie Anderson ....
