I cant remember seeing an episode as unfunny as tonights in a very long time. I kept waiting for it to get better and it never did. Did anybody actually like it?

It was better than I expected, since I usually don't like it when they do whole episodes that are in-jokes about Star Wars and other things I don't care about. I really liked seeing Matt and Trey, who were lookin' good. And I liked the appearance of Hat McCulloch at the end, when the baby swarmed up over the guy's shoulder to get away from him. But overall, not one of the better new episodes.

I have to disagree. I thought it did a good job of satire, making some biting social commentary about the film industry, and how great filmmakers of yesteryear had become money-grubbing sellouts, looking in on cashing in on their past glory by butchering their old masterpieces.
Though I can understand it being a bit of a disappointment those expecting gross-out comedy, which this episode seems to have pretty much avoided. This one seemed to be aimed at more mature tastes, especially those old enough to have been around during the original runs of the classic movies depicted.

Yeah, I thought this one was weak too. It (and last week's) took material that might be funny as a brief joke or a rant and stretched it out way too long, without really doing much with it. Seriously, last night's show was just a build up to a Raiders parody, which really was not all the clever. The Hat subslot was just stupid, Matt and Trey trying too hard to be shocking. And comon, Spielberg and Lucas' voices could have been alot more interesting. Why does Trey speak in his natural voice for every freakin' character he does nowadays? Get some other staff member to do voices or find someone who kinda sounds like Speilberg. It'd be alot funnier that way. And Tweek...is anyone else tired of him already? I know I am. Why dont they do an episode set in hell and feature Kenny!!

Yeah, I'd have to agree that the "Free Hat" subplot was a bad pun-based joke that was drawn out too long, much like the "Aides" gag.

The AIDS gag was so damn funny and nver got old. The "Free Hat" gag was funny up to, and including, the Nightline bit where Cartman just drops the whole "why do you support killing babies" into Tweek's lap.
The "cool island song" bit was funny as well.

The Raiders parody went on for way too long. It was about 10 minutes long and was just an ad-vertabin rip-off of the original. The funniest bits were near the end when Stan says, "don't watch the movie, it's gonna suck," and Cartman saying, "wow, the movie must've really blowed." Unfortunately one of those jokes was revealed in the ads. Perhaps if they had showed more of the remade Indy it could've been better.
And did anyone else notice that the scene from the ads with Lucas literally chopping out a section of film was not in the episode at all?

I don't think the issue is "being old enough to get it" but just that it simply was not as funny as other episodes. Part of the reason is the new dynamics of the gang without Kenny. I don't think it's working as well.
DON'T GET ME WRONG I disagree with the original poster about this being the worst episode. Clearly there have been many worse. I just thought this one was average. I did like the part where Matt and Trey pitch their remade episodes. That was great.

It may be just a matter of poor writing, but I would not place the blame squarely on Kenny's absence. Kenny, throughout most of the latter part of his run on the show, has just been space filler, with an obligatory death, that seemed forced and had little to do with the plot, thrown into each episode.

I thought Butters fit the role well, but Matt and Trey seem more interested in his new identity as Prof Chaos. I'm not ruling out his return as their main friend, however. You didn't even laugh at the line "He killed those babies in self-defense"? Or Tweek on Larry King, with a caption under Tweek that read "supports murdering babies"?

The "enhanced" version of Saving Private Ryan, with all those soldiers shooting each other with walkie-talkies
The ad for the "enhanced" version of the South Park premiere episode
I can. The Terence and Philip Show episode (when we were expecting part 2 of who's Cartman's dad).
I believe they apologized for that one and never reran it.
