Making your own animated short...

I was wondering if anyone could recommend an animation program to make a small cartoon, something along the lines of South Park. This is purely for fun, so don't follow up with 'Don't be a copy-cat'. Thanks.

I saw a program for the Mac at Mike Kalec's Game Site that has an animation package. I didn't see a PC-based one, though. :.(
