you
Ya know, for being in a South Park newsgroup, you obviously can't read humor and sarcasim. We have no further need to communicate with you until you correct your problem.
We Canadians are known for our sarcasm. Have you never seen Strange Brew or what aboot Canadian Bacon with John Candy? Lighten up. Everyone in the world knows that Canada is probably one of the most beautiful, safest, friendly places in the world. Laugh damn it. Laugh. I know you're showing your pride for our birthday yesterday and all, but man, what's up your ass?
I say bring it on. Lets face it, I mean really (with no offence intended here) on the world scale most people think of America as an arrogant bully superpower, kind of like MechaStriesand, so if on a world scale American media is making fun of us, do you think anyone is going to take them seriously. It's a form of flattery man, they're just jealous that they have to pay for their health care and we can go see a doctor for fun because our farts smell funny. It's the way it is.
Go watch some SCTV, chill out with a Kokanee, and Bring it On Baby!!!!!!
Canada isn't a real country anyway.

I love Strange Brew! That is one funny ass movie. "The power of the force stopped you, you hosers!"
I was born and grew up in canada and now i live in the states temporarily. I am not at all offended by the joke i see on tv and in the new south park, because there just jokes, but i guess you would have to have a since of humor

I would give two reasons for all the Canada jokes:
First the bad and pitiful reason ... there is no Canadian Anti-Defamation League and they're one of the few safe targets left. Now South Park is quite willing to make jokes about Latin America, Africa, Chinese, homosexuals, feminists, etc. But with the other shows, I think it's more the shrinking humor pool political correctness is creating.
Second, the good reason (more applicable to SP) is that making Canada the enemy goes so far beyond the plausible as to stake out territory in the surreal. There is no more pacific border in the world than that between the US and Canada. A US-Canada war is about as implausible a political development as I can imagine. So, for South Park's style of deliberate bizarro, the plot involving anti-Canada sentiment over popular entertainment leading to war and the apocalypse is perfect. Even assuming your claim that Americans are ignorant of Canada be true, that's precisely why the popular Blame Canada movement is funny -- that it would be a manufactured hysteria. It's of a piece with the public buying holding in farts as the cause of spontaneous combustion (one one of the TV episodes) ... You're supposed to drop your jaw at the combination of implausability and easy acceptance.
p.s. I'm from Scotland ... and how am I supposed to react to Canuck Mike Myers' Fat Bastard, Ax murderer movie and SNL shop skit on these terms?

I was surprised that this movie made it to Canada, frankly. Canada has a history of intercepting material its goverment finds offensive, (The NY Times, pornographic comics, etc) and this movie was about as offensive as you could get.
Besides, do you think the _US_ came off looking that good in the movie?
I know some other things about Canada that I find rather offensive, but this isn't the place to list them.
Steven Campbell said...
Oh, lighten up. The movie bashed *everything*, not just Canadians. And the thought of the US going to war with Canada has enough over-the-top insanity to make it all the more ludicrous.
(Besides, the pie chart of Canada's GNP that showed "The X-Files Filming" as a significant source of income was hilarious.)
And *how* long have you been watching "South Park"? Canada's been a target for a long time.
I know enough about it from having spent summers up there (and still maintain enough of a Canadian accent on words like "house" and "about" that I've been asked if I'm Canadian) to know that you're taking it waaaaaaaaaaaaay too seriously.
Tirya (who can bleed for five days without dying. And if I'm not offended by Garrison's misogynestic commentary, y'all can lighten up about the Canada thing. Seriously.)
Go rent Canadian Bacon. That's another America goes to war with Canada and, in my opinion, the Canadians end up looking a whole lot better than the Americans. Besides, it's all in fun. Except for Alan Thicke, Canada is pretty cool by me.

We're not apologizing for Alan Thicke, after all, you Americans welcomed him with open arms. We will for Celine Dion though.
I don't know what this Campbell guy was so offended about this film. Maybe if he saw it on another level, and saw the absurdity associated with the US declaring war on its largest trading partner, ally and friend, all over a flatulent movie, he'd may be able to get the joke. I did. After all, wasn't the whole point in that song "Blame Canada" to show just how the PC types have to find something to blame rather than themselves for their kids' watching/listening to/reading material that they shouldn't be? ___ "Be careful? Well, I know that the official motto is:

Problem here: There's no trash in Canada. It's a very clean country.

WHAT bashing? Canada came off looking the BEST in that movie. If anyone was bashed it was the US. Were you offended by Canadian Bacon as well? Get a grip, it was funny movie, and as I said, the US came off looking by far the worst. Did a few "aboot" jokes offend you? Amn, you really are thin skinned. hank God for a movie like this that can offend such cry babies like yourself. We need more offensive movies instead of shit like Wild Wild West.
um....RUSH is Canada's ambassadors of Music, got the Royal Order of Canada, Jean Crieton is the prime minister....uh....the last Quebec referendum lost by only a few thousand votes to suceed from Canada to become a seperate county, the national sport is LaCrosse, NOT ice hockey, The Tragically Hip are Canada's 2nd biggest rock act, Canada celebrates BOXING DAY, Canada Day is on July 1st, uh...1972 Canada Summit Series they beat RUSSIA, there are 2 French speaking provinces, Ottawa is the Capital, um....they spell center 'centre' uh....what else....they say eh...'strange brew' is the best movie ever! Did you also get offended at all the ethnic slurs on All In the Family?

I;ve yet to come across a Canadian who's offended by South Park.
The loudest laughs at the screening I saw in Ottawa were the Canadian references, esp. the "Minister of Movies", "Blame Canada", the burning, etc.

Yes! And it may well be *precisely* shows such as those aforementioned that the movie is lampooning.
As everyone here will know (well, almost everyone... <looks around>) South Park, for all its apparent piss takes of all and sundry, is actually ridiculing small-town America. If the Mayor or someone makes some reference to Mexicans, then SP is not lampooning Mexicans, per se: it is lampooning Americans' attitudes towards Mexicans AS EXPRESSED BY the Mayor. Much of what it ridicules is actually an indirect attack on how Americans ridicule the same. It's actually pretty subtle irony. (Does South Park intentionally ridicule itself, I wonder? Hmmm?)
