'South Park' creators respond to network censorship by James Hibberd

Trey Parker and Matt Stone have issued a statement about Comedy Central censoring Wednesday night's "South Park" that suggested that this the first time in the history of the show that the duo haven't been able to "stand behind" an episode. Here's their statement:

"In the 14 years we've been doing South Park we have never done a show that we couldn't stand behind. We delivered our version of the show to Comedy Central and they made a determination to alter the episode. It wasn't some meta-joke on our part. Comedy Central added the bleeps. In fact, Kyle's customary final speech was about intimidation and fear. It didn't mention Muhammad at all but it got bleeped too. We'll be back next week with a whole new show about something completely different and we'll see what happens to it."

That was my impression as well. I wonder though, what if all of this "controversy" & censorship is all part of a PLAN involving the airing of this episode? Something to see if "Muslims" (<-quotes to differentiate them from TRUE Muslims) will take the bait? If so, they got them, HOOK, LINE, AND SINKER!!! Now if only real Muslims would declare a fatwa against the ones suggesting violence as a response to this episode, and the "Muslims" would quickly be arrested, deported, or face long prison terms in solitary over their intolerance!!

Not just comedic effect but also it made a point about censorship in its self. I thought it was very cleverly done and explained the whole point of the episode, as per usual. I don't think CC censored it at all.

I think it was funnier with the censored version, and M&T neither did the censoring themselves. It reminds me of the interviews when they were making their World Police movie. They said they'd get notes from the censorship board that they'd use and made the movie funnier. They didn't remove any part of the original to get to the final version, but got the rating they wanted. Here was another case where the censors did the guys a favor.

How do you get from that they they couldn't stand behind the episode? They didn't stand behind South Park's censorship, but that's a different matter.
