South Park vs. Scientology

There was a great moment in the Chef Returns episode (3.22.2006) where the head of the cult said his beliefs weren't any more silly than the beliefs of Christians, Jews or Muslims, though Kyle disagreed. This is a reference to the way a lot of people believe that one religion cannot be sillier than another since they all have rituals and believe in things that can't be true. Or, one's own religion is always less silly than others.

Some people define a "cult" as being a small religion even though you could say Christianity is a "cult" or used to be one.

The core belief of the Judea-Christian religions is in one god, some kind of all powerful being who created everything. Scientology is about a race of aliens who dumped their dead criminals into volcanoes and the spirits of those dead criminals invade the bodies of humans causing them problems. The guy who created it was a second-rate science fiction writer who hated (no wonder!) psychiatrists. Pick your poison.

I guess any religion could be viewed as a cult. But what does this have to do with free speech?

NOT to show this episode about scientology (a jewish religion offshoot) just shows how much
