Knowing there are a lot of Simpsons fans here:

NewsRadio's" Phil Hartman was found dead in an apparent murder/suicide in Encino, Calif. Another man was also found dead. Both his publicist and NBC had no immediate comment. Reports -- unconfirmed -- say that the other man was the victim of the self-inflicted wound -- but police haven't confirmed. Rumors also say that Hartman was being stalked.

Police responded to a call about gunshots this a.m. and guns were drawn. Later, reports say that a young girl, unharmed, was taken from the home by police this a.m. It is not confirmed that the girl was his daugther or that the Encino home was Hartman's.

Hartman was known for being a very private family man (he was married to his third wife). He has a son, 10 and a daughter, 6. Hartman spent eight seasons on "Saturday Night Live." He did a lot of television and commercial voice overs, including a recurring role on "The Simpsons." "NewsRadio" was picked up for NBC's fall 1998 schedule. Hartman was a native Canadian, born in 1948, who became a citizen in 1990. He began a career as a graphic artist, creating an album cover for Crosby, Stills and Nash, but later moved into acting.

By The Associated Press LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Actor Phil Hartman, who portrays radio newsman Bill McNeal in the NBC sitcom ``NewsRadio,'' and his wife were found dead in an apparent murder-suicide in their Encino home this morning.

Police were in the home, removing two children from the home when Hartman's wife, Brynn, 40, killed herself, police Lt. Anthony Alba said.

``We are investigating this as a possible murder-suicide,'' Alba said. ``We know for sure that the female inflicted her own gunshot wound. She shot herself as police were removing a child from the home,'' Lt. Anthony Alba said. ``Mr. Hartman had been dead for awhile.''

Alba would not confirm that Mrs. Hartman was the one who shot the actor.
