Halloween '99 Episode

Following the movie and the thre-part "Night of the Meteor Shower" episode, Trey and Matt come up with another hillarious episode of South Park.

Nice spoof of Scooby Doo with this episode. The only thing that was missing here was the a chase scene, complete with bubblegum music.

I know that Korn was done off-model compared to other SP characters in this episode, but do they look like MTV Downtown rejects to you or is it just me?

Cartman continues to prove to be the king of comedy on South Park. First with him mistaking a donkey's butt for spaghetti, then by singing Xmas songs the night before Halloween, and ending it by mistaking mom's blow up doll for an Xmas gift for him.

Is it just me, or is either Trey or Matt a fan of sci-fi movies? First, Moses resembles the MCP from Tron, and now Kenny's Halloween costume is ED-209 from the original RoboCop.

Double the damage Star Wars does to Kenny at the end. First, there's a rehash of Pinkeye (Wendy winning the costume contest by dressing as Chewbacca [RIP]). Then, just when you think he makes it through the episode, the credits stop and they shift back to Kenny, whose cause of death this week spoofs the Battle of Hoth scene in the Empire Strikes Back.

Pretty obvious they are... especially with all the Star Wars (like Kenny's AT-AT-esque death tonight) and Star Trek references. You'd have to be reasonably familiar with Trek to get a "red shirt" joke like in "City at the Edge of Forever" or whatever that episode was called.

gotta disagree. i went in with incredibly low expectations and was really surprised out how good it was. i've stated my distaste for korn, but i thought they did a great job. the whole scooby doo angle bordered on brilliant.

although grandma's corpse and matt and trey's cemetary watchmen were a little disturbing. especially the mayonnaise jar segment. <g>

I kept thinking: I hope none of the people I keep telling to watch SP tune into THIS one for the first time. They'll never watch another one. It sucked donkey balls. This epsisode was awesome.. And yes, I grew up watching Scooby Doo (I'm in my 20's) .. I loved the scenes with Korn (especially the Pirate Ghost debate and the magical "corn" transformation) .. The one band member loses his glasses just like Velma usually managed to do, and the whole thing about projecting the ghosts and pirate ships with q-tips and flashlights was just classic.

Add to that Cartman's mom laughing at the fat jokes, Cartman singing Christmas carols, checking off all the catalog items (including the "Build your own Mr. Hankey Set" - Did you notice it there?), the life size, anatomically correct Antonio Banderas... The guys from the cemetary demonstrating what sex with the corpse would sound like with the mayonaisse.

I'm sure there's more (like the joke with Wendy's costume) but i couldn't find much to dislike in this one.

Also did you notice that the priest is named Priest Maxi (and there is a reggae singer named Maxi Priest who had a hit called "Close To You" in the early 90's)

I've know the priest's name for sure since "Spontaneous Combustion" (but I had a little outside help - Photowire) but I saw it once before, around the time Damien showed up 20-21 months ago.

I have to disagree. A few months ago, I would have been all for it, but there have already been waaaaaay too many parodies done already. I'm getting tired of it. And as for the guy that said he grew up watching quality shows instead of Scooby Doo, well, bully for you! Just because you don't appreciate Scooby Doo references doesn't mean everyone else has to hate them too. Live and let live and stop being so prissy about it.

Parodies and references to current pop culture are one of the things that makes SP so funny.

There were a handful of great moments (and Cartman was in all of them), but when the episode was over, I felt a little disappointed.

It wasn't a bad episode, and I'm sure I'll be watching it 8 or 9 times in reruns, but it wasn't up to the usual standard. Just my opinion.

It was good to see Cartman again. Remember, he wasnt in the last two episodes. Aside from the movie, this is the first time we've seen the kids all together since the Sexual Harassment Panda episode. It's also the first time we've seen Chef in a very long time (if you don't count the movie)

I thought the part where Cartman said that they should put a stick up Grandmas ass and use her as a puppet was very funny. I also loved the part where Kyle whacked Cartman in the face with with the shovel.

For some reason, although i love Korn, every time they'd show up in the episode I'd be like, "Oh no, here they are again." Trey and Matt sometimes have this way of grinding the stories to a halt with scenes involving adults, probably because the kid's voices are so fast that it speeds up their scenes. Sometimes, though, the longer a scene a dragged out, the funnier it gets, like the part with the cemetary watchmen.

AAUGH!!! So *THAT'S* why Leonard Maltin's Mecha form looked so familiar!!! That had been bugging me for awhile, but I just couldn't place it!! I used to be a total Ultraman freak when it first came out (when I was 8 or so). I haven't seen it in such a long time, I guess it just sorta stuck in my subconscious. I gotta rewatch my old tapes! :)

BTW, whatever did happen to that show?
