It is true, I visited the site www.beef-cake.com and Matt Stone has confirmed that there will only be 27 more South Park episodes before the series is shut down. But he says that there will be another movie after the series is gone. All I know is...this truly TRULY sucks donkey balls....

Maybe. OTOH, perhaps they know when to stop. As it is, the show doesn't have the vibrancy it used to. Some people go on forever, even when they have stopped being any good. Others see it coming and stop voluntarily, before they reach the mediocre(sp!) stage. Oh if only "Garfield" would meet that fate! There comes a time to move on.

I totally agree. Unlike, say, The Simpsons--a lighter form of comedy which has been on for 10+ years, South Park is a more extreme and concentrated form of comedy, generating harder, heavier laughs, instead of lighthearted chuckles. Due to this very nature, it will squeeze itself out sooner and cannot be expected to have the longevity of The Simpsons. I prefer they concentrate more on quality than quantity, and not spread themselves too thin or run over the same old ground over too many episodes.
For another example, compare the length of Beavis 'n Butthead's run to that of the Simpsons. Or the two-year 12-episode run of Fawlty Towers to the nine-year God-knows-how-many-hundred-episode run of Seinfeld.
Hey, B&B did get a little lame following the "fire" scandal (a complete phony) and towards the end, mostly due to MTV's completely eviscerating them in Season 2, but some of those final episodes were fucking hilarious! Like Beavis cutting his finger off and having flames shoot from his butt! YEAH! YEAH! FIRE! FIRE! FIRE!!!!
I've never seen this episode, but just out of curiosity, does it predate "Cartman Gets An Anal Probe"?
I, however, suspect the "Terror" episode of the British comedy Bottom predates them both. (It's live action, not animated, by the way.)

Oh, they were hilarious. B&B are in shop class at the table saw. While no one notices, they saw the phone, First Aid kit, and everything else except the teacher's desk in two, then Beavis puts his finger into the blade. In the burse's office, Butt-head stickes the end of Beavis's severed finger up his nose -- "Hey, Beavis, your finger smells funny." (Beavis is scratching his butt with his left hand.) After the doctor reattaches his finger, Beavis starts picking his nose and it comes off again.
In the "Butt Flamb�" episode, B&B go to the hospital. Beavis's butt is burned, his pants have a hole burned in them, and black smoke puffs out his ass. At first he is ignored because all he say is "My butt hurts!" There's a guy before him with 5 gunshots in the belly who they are making wait in the lobby too. (He dies when they make him walk into the examining room.) Finally, when Beavis makes so much noise that they ask him to leave, they notice from the smell that he's got 3rd degree burns on his butt. When they look up his butt they are shocked at what they see. Meanwhile, Butt-head has donned some hospital garb and is checking out the other rooms. He walks on on a woman giving birth (splork!) and asks if they need any help (with speculum in hand). In another room he is handed a heart in a basin of ice and told to deliver it to another room. Back in Beavis's room, they open his butt with a speader and a huge flame shoots out, projecting Beavis three feet forward. "Fire in the hole!" they shout, and douse his butt with a fire extinguisher. "Ahhh, that feels better," Beavis says. Final scene: Beavis is in bed and Butt-head is sitting beside him, still holding the basin with the heart in it, now sitting in tepid water. The doctor comes nt the room with some students, describes the patient as having inflamed rectal tissues and 3rd-degree burns on his sphincter. She asks her students how this could have happened. After a pause, they all being to chuckle, then to laugh, and the boys join them. Music.

It was hilarious. In it, the two sad wankers Richie and Eddie and their two friends take part in a satanic ritual in an attempt to improve their sexual prospects by dealing with the devil. To prepare for it, they bake and eat a mixture consisting of really old Brussels sprouts, tabasco sauce, cayenne pepper, curry powder, and gun powder. This results in flaming farts left, right, and centre.

I'm not buying it. I can't see how "a more extreme and concentrated form of comedy" has to die out quicker than other types of televised comedy simply because that's how it's characterized. That's flawed logic right there.
Are you saying that Fawlty Towers was funnier than Seinfeld because it only survived for 12 shows? Or that it's better because the humor content is concentrated into only 12 episodes as opposed to the 180 episodes of Seinfeld? That's ridiculous. It's not as though each show is given a finite amount of humor to be apportioned to each available episode, and that the shows with fewer episodes somehow packed all their humor into those fewer episodes instead of diluting it over a much larger number, thus making each episode that much funnier.

That is so true. Obviously we all love SP and it will be sadly missed but it's better to go out on a high than to go out because nobody watches it anymore. Always leave them wanting something more.
I'm not too upset by the news...27 episodes is a lot, and I don't think they can possibily do more without going downhill....
It would be nice for the series, when finished, to all be great, rather than starting to suck towards the end, while they run out of and recycle their ideas.
