I got rather inspired while looking at the lyrics to this song, and Lyssie's 'Blood Sings' helped me alongas well...it's nice and depressing. ^^;;; Enjoy..

We all know what happened the day the seventh sign fell into place. But what if it didn't? What if Kenny made no wish, or wished for something else? What if Satan did not have the willpower to kill Saddam? What if, one way or another, in the end, there was simply a dead planet, ruled over by two ever-quarelling lovers..with one immortal boy surviving?

Empty Chairs At Empty Tables A songfic

~There's a grief that can't be spoken There's a pain goes on and on.~

<Saddam's body is electrocuted and he is looking to Satan to help. Satan exchanges a short, fleeting look with Kenny, and his eyes begin to narrow..and then he looks fondly at Saddam and cannot do it.>

~Empty chairs at empty tables Now my friends are dead and gone.~

<Satan reaches out an arm and sweeps Cartman, Stan, and Kyle away. Saddam smiles evily as Satan has almost a pained look on his face. The scene fades into Kenny standing in the now-empty warehouse where the boys plotted La Resistance>

~Here they talked of revolution Here it was they lit the flame Here they sang about tomorrow And tomorrow never came~

<A faded overlaying image of Gregory and the kids singing La Resistance, as Kenny looks at the same box Gregory stood upon with a sad look in his eyes>

~From the table in the corner They could see a world reborn~

<Another overlaying image: Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and the others are plotting at the table with the army figurines. Kenny's underlaying image shows him picking up a scorched army figurine and looking at it contemplatively>

~And their voices rose with ringing And I can hear them now~

<Overlaying image: Closeup of Gregory singing. Underlaying image: Kenny taking a torn La Resistance poster off the wall>

~The very words that they had sung Became their last communion At the lonely barricade at dawn~

<Overlaying image of the kids holding their La Resistance flag as they come up from behind the wall of ice, eyes narrowed. Underlaying image: Kenny opening the door to the shack and releasing the poster to the wind in silent tribute>

~Oh my friends, my friends, forgive me That I live and you are gone~

<Kenny slowly undoes and removes his hood. Tears are in his eyes>

~There's a grief that can't be spoken There's a pain goes on and on~

<Overlaying image: The war scene. Bullets flying, tanks charging forward. Underlaying image: Still Kenny unmasked>

~Phantom faces at the window Phantom shadows on the floor~

<Images of Kenny's friends pass in the overlaying image, as Kenny sees their shadows on the wall for brief, fleeting moments>

~Empty chairs at empty tables Where my friends will meet no more~

<Kenny opens the door of the shack and steps outside, walking through the snow slowly>

~Oh my friends, my friends, don't ask me What your sacrifice was for~

<He comes to a statue of Saddam, just as the dictator had promised..right where Cartman was standing. Eyes full of rage, he rushes towards it, and begins to pummel it with his fists>

~Empty chairs at empty tables Where my friends will sing no more~

<The pounding of his fists eventually ceases, and he sobs against the cold metal. The screen pans up to reveal only the statue and the boy amidst a dead, snowy world>

<end>

That was so sad! This is one of the saddest things I've read in a while. Just when I thought that song was sad enough, you've made it even sadder.....*sniff*.....

Good songfic, btw.
