I'm sorry but that partcular joke was going TOO far. I've had a very dear
friend die from cancer, and don't even one of you dare say "lighten up" because
cancer is a serious topic. So many people have lost loved ones to this disease,
how can you laugh? Would you laugh if anyone YOU knew died from cancer?

I'm going to be one who says "lighten up" and don't try the "you don't understand how serious cancer is" bit because my father died of it in 1980 and it had a *huge* impact on my life. So yes, I know someone who died of cancer, and yes, I know how serious a disease it is... and I still laughed because I thought Scott was funny - and I thought T&P's reaction to it was funny, as well. I liked the "duck back behind my buddy here so he can't get me" move.
Maybe I just have a warped sense of humor, I don't know. But I try not to take cartoons too seriously.

lighten up, dude...it's just a SHOW!
Did anyone else think that Scott wishing cancer on T&P sounded a LOT like when Howard Stern wishes cancer on his "enemies"?? I thought it was pretty darn funny.
And SnowCalico, I will not tell you to "lighten up". That is your own personal feeling and you have every right to it, and others should at least respect that that's how you feel. Everyone has their own "line" that is too far. I have mine, but Southpark hasn't crossed it yet. I can't even predict how I will react when or if they do, so I will certainly not try and tell you how you should react. I do hope you will stay around the newsgroup though, because I also enjoy your posts.

This looks like a troll, though there's a good enough chance it isn't that I'll bite and take it seriously.
Guns are a serious topic, too... and the Klan, too, and chemical warfare considering that Saddam wouldn't have built five zillion chemical and biological weapons just to impress chyx. And anyone who's suffering Gulf War Syndrome will probably agree with me.
In fact, South Park has mocked many serious issues and cancer is pretty tame, especially compared to things I've seen on MAD TV, SNL, and even Seinfeld. Seinfeld actually has a character pretend to have cancer so that people would be nicer to him, whereas South Park only had some guy wishing cancer on some other guys.
I'm sorry about your friend, but it's the nature of things. Sometimes humor hits a nerve. The only thing you can really do is try not to take it personally.

Hell, George Costanza actually portrayed a handicapped man, just for the "benefits"...
Agreed. No offense to Snow, I know (yes, i do) how difficult things like that can be, BUT... I don't think they were making fun of your friend personally, and therefore things like that shouldn't be TAKEN personally.
actually i used to know someone who died of cancer and i actually did laugh it was funny
It's funny how we'll laugh at everything else but when something we don't like is made fun of, we go ape-shit and get pissed about it. I'm not gonna tell you to lighten up, but remember, there are alot of other serious issues on the show that are made fun of and I don't hear yoiu complaining about that. Either like it all, or don't like any of it. Stop with the double standards.

P.S. I have known a couple of people that have died from cancer. In fact, my friends mom is suffering from breast cancer as we speak. I know how it feels. I've been there, done that.

My father died of cancer. I was laughing my ass off through this episode. Get over yourself.
Being able to laugh at life and at yourself for that matter is one of the main devices of getting from day to day! My father died of kidney cancer 12 years ago and, within the past month, my mother had a malignant lump removed from her breast. It was caught very early and she's gonna be fine, thankfully. I'll admit to chuckling at the line. But it was late, I had just gotten home from work and was still getting over the April Fool's joke part of the whole thing.
******** HAIL TO THE REDSKINS!!! ********
I totally agree with you on the cancer joke thing. My dad has terminal cancer and laughed his ass off when I told him about it. That prissy little "SnowCalico" needs to calm down and realize that life is full of tragedy but you need to be able to laugh about it sometimes or else you willbecome so damn bitter no one will want to be around you ever.

E-mail for infoIf that's true, then why the fuck can't you type all the fucking letters in fucking swear words, you prissy little choad-smoking wankstain?
He must've hit pretty close to home to get your panties in such a wad. On the playground that is Usenet, you're standing in a puddle of your own urine, throwing a tantrum.
You're just too precious for words. There aren't a whole lot of things you can post on Usenet that make you look like a bigger idiot than "I'll sue you" but "I'll beat you up" is sure as hell one of them.
Die spitting blood.
My guess is you're in the range of 14-16. A very creative 14-16, though.
Usenet is a playground? OK, fine. Where do the grownups hang out? I need to go there.
Wow... that's another. Want more? Read the rest of your post. Besides... The best insults were "fuck" free.
Maybe it's called fishing, and maybe you just swallowed SnowCalico's bait. Maybe not. Who knows?
Anyway, I don't give a hoot-n-a-holler about SnowCalico or her friend's cancer, but I must say I am way disappointed by the bulk of your post, except for the "choad-smoking wankstain" part. You must've found some other raving goober's post and just cut-and-paste.
Maybe you get sent to bed without dinner when you say "f**k" at home (isn't that just so precious the way I use asterisks in place of the "u" and the "c"? Maybe I'd even use little smiley-faces if I could.), so you use NGs as an opportunity to get it out of your system. Very clever.
And don't bother trying to give me cancer. Plain & Simple Cronan's already trying, and his brainwaves and yours would probably collide.
Pull the panties out of your crack, eat some chocolate, get a makeover, and go watch "Titanic" for the nineteenth time, you big girl.

It's very unfortunate that that happened :-(
In order to appreciate the south park humor, you have to abstract it so it doesn't refer to anyone that you know. What is funny is that Scott was so pathetic and petty that:
1) he wants to KILL terrance and phillip simply because he doesn't liike their sense of humor.
2) He is so desperate to kill them that he can't even come up with a good plan of doing it. Face it, telling someone that you are going to give them cancer through you MIND is so pathetic that is is funny.
3) Terrance and Phillip were actually SCARED by Scott's attempts to do it.
But Scott attempting to do that to terrance and phillip has no relationship to your friend dying of cancer. Note that the way kenny dies each time is SO BIZZARE that it doesn't trigger memories in people about how people they knew died.
I'm very sorry that your close friend died, but you have to stop feeling that everything you see refers to your friend's death, otherwise you will go mad very easily :-(

No, we don't. Considering how shitty AOL is, it won't be long before you're gone anyway. And seeing how no respectable ISP would allow a worthless little sack of hippo excrement to connect to their lines, much less give you an account, once AOL punts you off you're history.
In any case, you can go fuck yourself, you bleeding cunt. You're so fucking prissy that you can't even type the word "fuck" without censoring yourself. I bet you're so damn anal-retentive that you scrub the toilet bowl before and after you take a shit, and then take a shower afterwards to make sure you've gotten all the shit and peanuts outta your asshole before you put your corncob back in.

I wanted to answer this because I enjoy reading your posts on this group. I will dare to say lighten up. My father died of cancer last year at the age of 51. I had cancer when I was 23 and luckily survived. You know what? EVERYTHING is funny, cancer too. Because if you can't laugh at Life, the Universe, and Everything, you will surely die of a broken heart. Laugh or cry. I choose laugh.
My childhood friend had cancer, and anytime anyone mentioned anything about cancer, he would go ballistic. He grew up to be a whiny dick, with no sense of humour and no social skills.
Also, my young cousin died of head cancer last year. This show was funny as hell.
Scott Newman vancouver, BC Go Roughriders!
Hundreds of thousands of people die from obesity every year, so I guess we can't laugh at Cartman for being a big fat ass anymore.

I've had at least 3 people in my family die of cancer (all were heavy, heavy smokers, btw), and I thought that was one of the funniest bits! "I'm giving you cancer with my mind," indeed! Harkens back to Scorcese's "The King Of Comedy", when the sweet old woman comes up to Jerry Lewis on the street and asks for an autograph; he waves her off and walks away, she looks dejected, then screams at his back, "Cancer! You should get cancer and DIE!"
Hey my own grandfather AND aunt BOTH died from cancer... but if you can't laugh, you're gonna grow up to be a very very bitter anbd angryu person. South Park isn't picky, they insult everyone. If you can't take a joke, well then.....

Hey, I'm a cancer survivor too, and I admit that I was laughing at the jokes! I agree that in normal situations, joking about cancer is in bad taste. But there are a lot of things on that show that shouldn't be joked about. And trust me, I am one of the most "P.C., bleeding heart liberals" that you could ever meet - but I just have to take that hat off for 1/2 once a week and just laugh! And really, if people are sensitive about race issues (I'm a minority too), guns, poo, gas and really bad little kids, they shouldn't watch the show. One of my friends won't even watch The Simpsons because she thinks the kids are too bad mouthed. She one of those that demands respect out of her kids, so she is really no fun when it comes to issues like S.P. But that's her perogative so she JUST DOESN'T WATCH!

\_) (_/Hello,
I'm afraid to post, because i have several strikes against me, 1. I'm on AOL, Hey I don't like it, but its the only ISP in my little town, 2. I'm a new convert to South Park and according to the above post, that makes me a "cock-smoker" ( my wife will find that a bit of a shock). The biggest strike against me will be that I THOUGHT THE CANCER JOKE WAS PHUCKING FUNNY. My grandmother, who meant the world to me and I miss dearly on a daily basis died from CANCER. Her body was riddled with it. But, she never wanted people to feel differently about her because of her cancer. I thought the joke was funny as hell. My grandmother was on serious morphine and thought shows with "drug humor" were funny as hell too. Hey I don't see any Arabs bitching about the Saddem Hussein jokes or all the Arab henchman talking about killing American pigs! And thats a cliche that got the film TRUE LIE in trouble! Get a damn life. Bye , THE U-bOt!!
Trust me, sir. You are the exception to the AOL rule. I welcome you.
Would you have been laughing if you were Jewish and saw the way Kyle was ridiculed, or Cartman dressing up as Hitler? The only difference this time is that Trey and Matt have taken aim at a majority, rather than a minority, because almost everyone's life has been changed by cancer in some way. Personally, I'd like to say that I am 17, had cancer as a child, and still found the jokes to be rather funny.
Are you a mental person. Can't you take a joke and not have PC on your mind all the time. You are the type of person that is boring.................................Ha I speak my mind.
