stanley cup am I missing something?

I'm from the Uk and know nothing about current events in the States at the moment or indeed ice hockey.

Given that southpark is satirical and usually acually about something current - can anybody tell me what was the point this was trying to make? It just felt really, really weird watching it. Like I was missing part of a much bigger picture. Did something happen in Hockey this week? I'd rather not read any replies along the lines of "nothing much" or "It was shit anyway" etc. I actually thought it was pretty funny but it confused the hell out of me.

I think from time to time Matt & Trey just like to relax and take a vacation from "real life" to do a silly story about nothing in particular, or maybe this was an idea they've been wanting to do for a while and the lack of any real "news" gave them an opportunity to just fill up some airtime.

It was just a silly story that starts off as one thing, gets involved in another and winds up being about something completely the opposite of what you were expecting.

I liked the "twist" ending, I "got it" immediately and enjoyed the rug being pulled out from under me :-)

Unexpected? I was waiting for something like that to happen, though the ending was far more brutal than I was expecting.

As for the genre of movies they were lampooning, I'd put "Bad News Bears" on the top of the list.
