My Take on "Stanley's Cup", the 10th Season and what's offensive to me.

     At first, I thought that "Stanley's Cup" was going to be a parody
of those "underdogs-in-sports-who-manage-to-win-the-big-game" movies.
But after seeing the end and thinking about it for a moment, I kinda
got it.  "Stanley's Cup" is basically recreating one of those
"underdogs-in-sports-who-manage-to-win-the-big-game" movies from the
point of view of the rival team, as if Trey and Matt are saying, "Those
guys have a story of their own too.  What about them?"
     This season of SP was pretty good, but episode-wise, it couldn't
match up to what they did last season(the "Hell on Earth 2006" was my
favorite episode and I have to match the two-parter a couple of more
times to get the athiesm-in-the-future subplot).  I guess T&M are
trying to keep their heads on straight after the acclaim they recieved,
that they're probably playing it safe until they could find a topic
they could really sink their teeth into.
     One last thing, I'm certain that a lot of people are offended by
last night's show(and I'm certain that a lot of Australians was
offended by Steve Irwin's cameeo in "Hell on Earth 2006"), BUT NOT ME!
What's offensive to me is the delusions of a wannabe rapper who happens
to be married to an aging pop princess, a hanger-on who goes to a
clinic for her weight problem when we know damn well that she didn't
have any problem putting on the pounds when we first saw her and a
bunch of pissed-off everyday people who believe they're duped by an
actor doing a "documentary" without considering that they're set up
based on how outrageous the actor's character is.
     But what do I know?

I agree with the Irwin thing.

Two jokes last night about Irwin, and I laughed at both of them.

I see it like this : 1) I liked watching Steve Irwin, and while he did enlighten people about crocs and other Australian animals, he did by "really pissing them off". He wrestled with them for an adrenaline rush first and "conservation" second, therefore, for the Animal Kingdom to fight back was only a matter of time, so yes, I am saying Steve had it coming, so I feel no sorrow for him (why should I? I didn't force him to do stupid things). 2) "Too soon"? Why? If it's because it's insensitive to his grieving loved ones, why are they watching South Park in the first place? (Like the Conan/"Lost"/Plane Crash opening of the Emmy's - Why were the families of the plane crash victims watching the Emmy's only hours after their loved ones died?) If they (Irwin's family) watch South Park regularly (given they're theoretically watching it in order to be offended by it) then they have to know that *nothing* is sacred, it's "all of nothing", the way it should be, and if they're offended then they have only themselves to blame, the world does not end because a loved one dies (and I've lost several, so don't think I've never experienced it so I can't comment about their "feelings"). 3) If something is true, how is that offensive? If it's offensive *because* it's true, maybe you should have told that person to knock it off before they're killed doing it, if they ignore the warnings and do it anyway (and Steve was certainly aware of the risks associated with fucking with Nature) then screw them, they're comedy fodder. 4) Steve is probably laughing his ass of in Hell anyway (he wasn't a Mormon, right?).

Matt & Trey didn't kill Steve Irwin. Steve Irwin killed Steve Irwin by his own stupidity, and that's comedy gold.

The "Hell on Earth 2006" appearance caused a kerfuffle here, though only a handful of people had actually seen the show through the magic that is the internet. The media reports were based on hearsay, and I even had my mother calling me on the phone to tell me what South Park had done. I'd seen it twice, so I told her exactly what took place and even played that scene for her so that she could hear it for herself. Aside from just the timing of it, she couldn't see what the fuss was about.

As for "Stanley's Cup", I think there'll be outrage... but those complaining the loudest will no doubt tell the same jokes to their friends and children and they'll all have a good belly laugh.

Anyone who is truly offended, aside from Steve's nearest and dearest, really needs help...

At first, I thouth that the Steve Irwin thing was a bit over the top, and I wouldn't have wanted to be a friend or relative of his and watch that part, but I don't think that it's worse than anything else done by SouthPark.
