Girls Watching South Park

Of the posts I've read most are from boys (or men) and I have read a few posts
(ahem) putting us "chicks" down.  Anyway I'd like to know the reasons why boys
watch South Park and reasons why girls watch south park...it would make for an
interesting survey.

I'm a chick and I watch SP (obviously). I watch it because I have an incredibly sick and twisted mind and love the disgusting jokes and antics of the characters. I wouldn't miss an episode for anything!

What fun would that be??

My girlfriend makes me tape every episode for her. Where she goes to school she doesn't get it. She loves the show more than me. Why? I dunno... But if you're wondering if girls watch it I know lots that do.

Hey there! I'm a girl and I LOVE South Park! Reason? Well, I think that it is one of the best shows on television. It's just so funny! . I never miss an episode! South Park is the really the only show that I watch on TV (besides Tracy Ullams' Tracy Takes On...)

I am a 34 year old female, mother of a 14 year old, and I love South Park because I have a great sense of humor and the show is too funny! I can see, unlike a lot of other Moms, that the show is making fun of people who act like the characters in South Park, not glorifying them. My daughter watches for the same reasons.

I'm a 32-year-old going for her master's in Theology and I watch South Park because if I don't, the constant immersion in heavy Christian religious texts will cause my brain to implode. I watch Beavis and Butthead for the same reason. I think they would make fun little brothers.

I'm not going for a masters in Theology, but I was brought up in parochial schools and am currently president of my church council. I think they do a great job with Jesus - the boys actually show Him a little respect, which is nice. Personally, I wish Jesus had a call-in show - I have a LOT of questions!

It's just wickedly funny! I find the humor to be some of the sharpest freshest takes on life that I have seen since Robin Williams started doing stand-up. It's like George Carlin and Robin Williams had kids that were shipped off to a strange land. I love the show. :-) Maggie

Speaking as a female, I know why I watch South Park.....because it's funny and not afraid to take a chance with the humor. So far, my favorite bit has to be in Tom's Rhinoplasty when Mr. Garrison gets the nose job and turns into David Hassellhoff. :-)

My sister refuses to watch South Park. I've tried to turn on a few ladies in my classes to South Park, but have been put off by it. This girl I hang out with was watching South Park with a large group of us and had no idea why we were all laughing. She didn't even get the thing about licking carpet, but at least she laughed at Mr. Hankey.

I watch SP because! NO, seriously, I didn't even start watching it when it first came out because I thought it was a little over the top. But as the reviews came in and the controversy i started wtching it. Why? I really can't say, but I love to try and find the "error" and behind the script stuff. And the other thing being I can actually see myself saying or thinking soem of the stuff they do. Well not at 8, but hey I give some leeway.

It's a very interesting discussion... My girlfriend HATES Beavis & Butthead but all my guy friends obviously love it. She dislikes the "crude, immature, stupid" humor of B&B. Yet, she LOVES south park! I don't get it...

I'm not sure I agree. B&B at its worst is toilet humor, but at its best is satire. They Just don't usually get to the level of intelligent satire as The simpsons (or even SP.) Of course, at its best, B&B is King of the hill.

Plus, Issac hayes sings songs about both south park and Beavis and Butthead.

Actually, IMNSHO, B&B started out poking fun at people, i.e. satire, and used 'toilet humor' to do it. Then, when those two morons started gaining viewership, the shows humor grew coarser. I liked them for a while, but it was like a fad. After a short while, left to itself, their somewhat limited vocabulary just grows old. It needs to have shock value to work, and after a while, you just shrug it off.

I felt similr to B&B. It used to be one of my favorite shows because they made fun of the videos. Then for some reason the show changed where when they played the videos, their comments weren't as much comments on the video as it was them going on a useless tangent (ex. they play cards, make pancakes).

Worst part is that I didn't have cable when the good episodes were played, and I missed taping most of them :P.

BTW, I can understand why girls might really like South Park better than B&B - they're totally different in approach. Beavis & Butthead are crude and stupid (albeit, funny at times), and they really only appeal to viewers like them (or those who can relax by losing all mental activity). South Park, however, is much more subtle - the kids almost understand all the nasty stuff they hear about, but it's because they're 8 years old that they aren't quite sure about it. It's the naivete that makes 'em so darn cute.

not to sound like a bitch, and not to say we women don't have morals....BUT neither B & B or SP really have any moral value...sure a little on SP ( the hunting episode when Stan kills Scuzzlebutt) I don't watch Sp to get my weekly dose of morality...I watch it to laugh my ass off!

I'm a girl and I'm just as much of a die hard SP fan as any guy is! I watch it because it's hilarious with tons of inside jokes and Cartman is the best invented character ever:-)

What I meant was that it offends girls more than it offends guys. This is why not as many females will find SP funny. I have a female roommate who was offended by some of the crude comments and jokes.

before the show came out, and they were showing the previews for the opening show. i didn't think that i would like it - but it turns out that i love it. remind your roommate that it IS a cartoon.

I am 29 female and enjoy SP. Someone needs to relax and enjoy life more!

My mother watches South Park! She is all of 76 years young and finds the show to be hilariously funny, so does my 77 year old dad. I videotape it and we watch it the next day after work. I've tried and succeeded in getting them to watch BBH and Daria too, but that's a discussion for another group.

Yes chicks dig south park. As a matter of fact, I like the show so much I'm analizing it and writing a paper on it for my advanced mass communications course (it's not as easy as it sounds). I think people have become way to comfortable with the term politically correct and need to get the stick out of their ass's and get back bones. If I think somethings wrong I'll say it's wrong, if I think someone's an asshole I'll tell them their an asshole. That's the attitude I get from the show too and that's why I enjoy it so much. Plus the writing kicks ass.

well, here's a woman who loves the show. I was introduced to the show by a woman, got a tape of all of the episodes from a different woman, and showed it to three _other_ women, who all loved it.

i don't think that 'girls' dislike the show.

What I meant to say is this: Since all guys are crude and enjoy that type of humor, they will all enjoy southpark. I believe there are a lot of females who find this type of humor in bad taste and thus dislike the show. So what I meant was that there will be less females than males who like the show.

Your girlfriend doesn't represent all girls! I'm a girl a South Park is my favorite show, I haven't missed an episode yet. I bet there are many other girls who find the sick humor of South Park funny and entertaining.
