Another BASEketball Review

Its the Incinerator again with a review of BASEketball ! This is David
Zucker's new movie starring
 Trey Parker & Matt Stone. Everyone knows who these guys are so I'll skip
the resume bit. The film is
  hysterical! Absolutely, rolling in the aisles, hysterical. It represents a
new breed of comedy to me. I
   love the old Zucker films like Airplane, Naked Gun, etc. I also love the
disturbingly modern and
   creative humor of South Park. This film is a damn near perfect synergy of
the two elements. The
 story is this : two guys invent a game out of boredom combining elements of
basketball and baseball.
  It becomes a national hit and they are made into stars. It makes important
points of some issues in
   sports like the way money has corrupted athletes turning them into
money-grubbing endorsement
 contract-seeking whiners with no loyalty to their team's home city. It also
explores the fact of owners
    caring only about money and how to make more of it. The rest of the film
is some of the most
 original comedy material I've seen in a film in years. Although not every
single joke worked for me, I
   hardly minded because I was bombarded with them for the whole length of
the movie. It doesn't
allow you to breathe and that makes for an incredible moviegoing experience
in a packed theater. The
  acting is good, even from Jenny McCarthy & Yasmine Bleeth. Many sports
types play themselves in
 the movie and do an excellent job - Bob Costas, Al Michaels, Reggie
Jackson. Robert Stack has a bit
  part and is absolutely hilarious! I will go see this movie again and will
buy the DVD when it comes
 out. Audiences will love it and I predict that it will get more people in
the theater from word of mouth
 than from TV ads. This will be tough as hell to market anyway. The worst
thing that could happen is
   that people will think this film is similar to Jim Abraham's film "Jane
Austen's Mafia". Which
 despite having a good trailer, is a piece of shit. Last but not least, the
film is rated R for adult humor
          and foul language. Its a dream come true kids - Zucker humor with
an R rating.

I disagree... based on what I've seen so far, I think it looks pretty funny! Of course, it helps to be a fan of the Airplane/Naked Gun movies... (NOTHING can beat the original Airplane, mind you)

Then again, I loved Half-Baked... and alot of critics panned it, so of course, there's no accounting for taste.

I'll give Baseketball a chance. Half Baked looked fair, at best, but I was so surprised at how funny it was, I saw it twice in the theatre, and I intend to buy the video when its released. The last movie I saw twice in a theatre was probably From Dusk til Dawn. (not including Ferris Bueller's Day Off or Raiders of the Lost Ark... a local movie theatre showed them in the last few months, and naturally I attended.)
