Bad example. I have a cable descrambler and all the free PPV I can handle.

I can live with that. Since I don't lose sleep at night knowing I have about 400mb worth of downloaded SP episodes on my hard drive (and a bootleg copy of the movie coming on CDROM any day now) then this causes no moral dilemma and I get off scot free.

It is difficult to continue to create and produce worthwile material if you are not compensated properly. If you really like something, go buy it. Support the people who do an adequate job of entertaining you, or they won't be around for very long. I try and use the mp3 medium as a filter. It helps me decide wether to speny my money on something if I am unsure, but with some people/bands ie. Trey and Matt, Ween, MxPx, etc I will purchase their work to support them, when in all actuality I can get it for nothing on the 'net.

That blows the whole "starving artist" thing out the window, huh? Me, I don't think there's any correlation between creativity and compensation.

You know why they are starving? Because no one buys their stuff.

I'm not saying in ALL cases, but the things you really enjoy you should support.

As a musician, I have a hard time thinking that, if I were to cut an album that people really liked, it would inspire me to do more. But I would never be able to put the time and concerted effort to do so if I had to work 9-5 Monday thru Friday.

I am not saying I don't do the same thing. I am just saying that there must be some things in your life that you find worthwile to support (Be it a specific band, South Park, whatever).

Well, I could look at this in either of two ways. First, when I thought to write the phrase "starving artist", I was thinking about Renaissance painters and sculptors and such, who often toiled in anonymity only to have their work be worth millions *after* they died, as opposed to Parker and Stone whose work is earning millions while they're alive. In other words, the creativity of the artist, and the compensation that artist happens to receive, are completely unrelated.

But when I read your response, I thought about my office. We have plenty of 'artwork' hanging on the walls in my building. Many of them absolutely hideous, but the owner's wife picked it all out. Some of it nothing but random brushstrokes. Well, about 4 months ago, they installed this huge Alexander Calder type sculpture in the courtyard. It was an eyesore but we had all learned that you *never* question the artwork. Last week, we found out how much they paid for it. Well. I'll tell you this. I hope the 'artist' (as well as he owner's wife) developes a tapeworm so he knows what it's like to be hungry. In other words, his complete lack of creativity and his absurd compensation just don't correlate.

So really, either way you gotta concede that point. :)

That's true. Would you believe I actually support Public Television? I kid you not. They get $50 from me every year. I even tell them not to send the "gift". Last year is was RiverDance videos. I wonder what it'll be this year.

I understand where you are coming from. I agree completely. But I was referring the here and now. I agree with your point 100%.

*conceded* :) It always seems as if the least talented recieve the most recognition, while people who are creatively original are left in the dust.

Heheh.. if it is more Riverdance videos, tell em to keep em again. I just respect the work that Matt and Trey do, and feel that if they release a product I deem worthy, I will spend my money on it. Now if the soundtrack sucked, that would be a different story. ;)

LOL, those SP songs are SO addictive...I've been known to listen to some over and over and over again, to the point I'm just sitting there and staring...until someone in my family comes up and are like, "Jess? What are you doing?" and I either blurt out, "COME SAIL AWAY WITH ME!" or "What would Brian Boitano do if he were here today?" or any other various line...depends which song I was playing at the time. :)
