Well, since Usenet is *supposed* to be an ASCII text-only forum, it doesn't matter if the newsreaders (not the computer) can see or use HTML - it's not supposed to be here.

As far as the computer being one peace [sic] of crap, well, I'll put my UNIX box up against your WebTV console any day.

Save the HTML for web pages, where it's supposed to be.

It doesn't have anything to do with the ABILITY to view HTML, it is the fact that no one WANTS to. You shouldn't have to sit there and wait for what is basically an entire web page ( with graphics ) to load just to read a three line response that is equivalent to " ME TOO! " or " THAT SUCKS ".

Usenet, which is what these message boards are called, has been in existance for over twenty years nows, almost before Bill Gates was out of diapers. It originated as a message exchange system between Unix networks, and thus predates the Web and HTML by more than a decade. The original newsreaders, derivatives of which are still used by millions today, thus had no conception of HTML, as it did not exist. Also they pre-date the now ubiquitous graphical user interfaces, and thus are simple, text-mode only affairs, that can be run on 24x80 terminals. So that's largely why Usenet frowns on HTML. Why Outlook Express provides HTML as an explicit option for Usenet is beyond me.

It has nothing to do with computers not handling it. It goes to simple rules... not everyone that reads Usenet newsgroups does so from a graphical computer. Some do it from text-only terminals. Some from shell accounts, some from high-end computers that can do everything <far more then your little WebTV box will ever dream of doing>. Usenet was around years before you were ever online, years before anyone knew what WWW meant, back when the only people that really got on the internet were geeks in college computer labs. So it has nothing to do with having a "lame computer", hell, its better then what you have, you don't even have a computer so I would watch who you rip on, ok?
