Dear fellow South Park, Trey Parker, and Matt Stone fans: The week of October 6th, 1998, the MPAA upheld its ruling on the NC-17 rating it gave Trey Parker�s (co-creator of South Park) new film,"Orgazmo." Despite the fact that this movie contains no explicit sex or violence,and despite attempts by Mr. Parker to re-cut the film, the appeal by October Films, the film company distributing "Orgazmo", was denied. It is our belief that the NC-17 rating this film was given was not based entirely upon the content of thefilm, but rather, on the biased view of the board pertaining to the film makers themselves, namely Mr. Trey Parker (star, director, writer) Mr. Matthew Stone (producer), Mr. Jason McHugh (producer), Mr. Dian Bachar (star), and others. Nevertheless, we haveto applaud these people and October Films for pushing on with the October23rd release date, as well as for opting to release Parker�s original cut ofthe film. We believe that this is the way the film should have been seenin the first place, anyway. Even though the MPAA is technically not invoking any censorship, itdemmands that certain scenes be cut out in order for an R-rating to be awarded. Also in question are the blatant double standards the board seems to upholdby allowing movies such as "There�s Something About Mary", and "SavingPrivate Ryan" which respectively both contain just as much, if not MORE sexually offensive material, and depict far more graphic violence than "Orgazmo". Yet these movies received anR-rating. Perhaps this is because it was 'respected' filmmakers as "The Farreley Brothers" and "Steven Speilberg" (and we know it never hurts to throwMatt Damon and Tom Hanks in a movie to boost morale at the board meetings, right?) that the graphic scenes of these moves were, for lack of abetter word... ignored. Whatever the case maybe, this ruling has significantly cut down on thefilm� s distribution, and with that eliminating a large portion of the film�s core audience. And so, sparked by the recent events, we, the fans ofTrey Parker, Matt Stone, and all those persons involved with "Orgazmo", have united together in hopes of generating a now much needed, and decidedly deserved buzz for the film. Many of the Trey Parker and Matt Stone websites have posted informationon their site pertaining to the campaign. Amongst other things, acontest has been set up in order to promote awareness as to where and when "orgazmo" will be showing and it invites fans to share what information they have with others. We are also asking for the support of any other sites that have similar interests, such as those related to "south park" or any other works ofM. Parker, Mr. Stone or their associates. Through these and otherefforts, including this letter writing campaign, we hope to increase awareness of this movie, and hopefully aid in its ultimate success. This letter isbeing sent out to various sources of interest who we wished to be made awareof this campaign, and perhaps by shedding some light on it to you, you inturn may be able to help us by shedding light on this to others. Unfortunately, it is because Mr. Parker and Mr. Stone would rather dothings their way, and continue to make shows like "South Park", that they are looked down upon and their legitimacy is constantly in question. Sincewe feel that their work is the FUTURE OF COMEDY, we feel this isn't fair. We know they have many fans in the world, so now is the time for them allto show their support. If it means, they'll provide is with years andyears worth of more work... then our efforts shall not go unrewarded. The MPAA is sucha bunch of full of shit bastards. It's very obvious that they show some sort of personal bias. For instance, I rented the Laserdisc version of "Scream", which puts back in two little bits of footage that were cut to go from NC-17 to R....it was hardly anything we hadn't seen in an R rated movie before. Then soon after, I saw "Startship Troopers" in the theater...I just couldn't believe that the amount of gruesome violence depicted in that movie walked away with only an R after the MPAA got on Wes Craven's ass about some intestines falling out of a dude's abdomen... It seems to me like "Orgazmo" is sorta taking a lighthearted approach to the whole "porn" subject. It is totally hypocritical if movies like "Boogie Nights" and "54", which realistically and more explicitly deal with pornography, can get an R from the MPAA which they go ahead and give "Orgazmo" an NC-17. I hope Trey will shed some light on this retardedness when he's on Leno this week. I hope a big uproar against the MPAA starts up! Fuck their bitch asses!
