I don't understand why they always kill Kenny. Is it because they have repressed anger?

I guess it's for the dark, dry humour found in trivializing the whole notion of death, through his ability to return for more successive deaths, and the lack of emotion shown by those witnessing his death. Plus, it gives the show a unique characteristic.

Usually, when a major character on a TV series dies, it is a landmark top-rated "special" episode. (For instance, BJ's death on M*A*S*H*, Edith's death on All in the Family.)
I think Matt & Trey could be trying to deliberately overdo and cheapen the "death of major character" gimmick. What's interesting is that a South Park episode is sort of "special" if Kenny DOESN'T die! (There have probably been only about 4 or 5 episodes in which Kenny doesn't die.)

Kenny comes back every week by design. Trey and Matt killed him off in the two Spirit of Christmas shorts, then they killed him off in the unaired pilot and in "CGAAP" and, well, they kept the construction paper pieces they used for him and just put him back in the next episode. It's the running joke of the show.

It was the same basic plot of the aired version of CGAAP (Cartman gets an anal probe) but it was quite a bit longer. Some of the scenes are different and the cow subplot was different. It's been a long time, but I think the running time was about 40 minutes. I saw it once a few years ago at a theatre showing other animated shorts. (Might have been shown before a Spike & Mike show.)

Lots of shows have had a *signature*, if you will. Remember JJ's "Dyn-O-Mite", the Fonz's "Aaaayyyy", Arnold's "Whatchoo talkin' bout, Willis"? Remember how they never showed Wilson's mouth on 'Home Improvement', or how you never saw Norm's wife, Vera, on Cheers? Those are just the ones that popped into my head. I am sure there are many others (anyone?). These are all things that nobody else on tv was doing, things that made the shows/characters unique. South Park just has a poor, orange-parka wearing, hooded kid who gets killed (nearly) every episode.
What's really odd about this recurring joke is that in earlier shows, the kids actually showed emotion and were upset when Kenny was killed. Now, when he's killed they sometimes just make a brief sarcastic comment, and nothing more is said about it.
In the episode I watched last night (about the underwear gnomes and the conflict over opening the "Harbucks" coffee store), the underwear gnomes kill Kenny accidently by having a cart fall on him. The gnomes are very upset about it. One of the children says in a bored sarcastic voice, "Oh no, they killed Kenny".
The gnomes keep saying "But we killed your friend Kenny, we really feel terrible, etc.". The children ignore them and start talking about something else.
I don't know why they have to kill him in every episode. The other thing is why the hell does this character mumble all the time and always wear heavy winter clothing? They made a comment that his family were on welfare in this last episode which surprised me because they never have filled out the character's background before (at least in the few episodes I've watched).
Of all the characters I've seen, he's the least filled out; have they ever shown his family and explained why he's always dressed in winter clothes and mumbles all the time?
My best guess is that the creators of the show had a childhood friend who was like Kenny who they couldn't stand. This may be there way of getting back at this kid who may have always gotten in trouble and hurt himself and was always overdressed in the winter time.
Although the , "Oh no, they killed Kenny" joke may be stale, there are other television shows that do the same comedy bits over and over again for years. Perhaps the writers are making fun of shows that repeat the same joke over and over again.

Besides, *all* the boys wear winter clothes! Take a look at "A Christmas Story" to see where they got the idea for Kenny.
Because he's theirs. They own him, and they can do whatever the hell they want.

And the other boys haven't been asking him to explain something suggestive nearly as much as before. But he gets the most sympathy because he dies so much, because he's poor. Stan remains the least offensive, then Kenny, then Kyle (watch him lose his temper :D), then Cartman (would Kenny have made anyone eat his parents?)
