I've been a South Park fan since the beginning. Before the beginning, even.
Early in the summer of . . . 1997, I think, Comedy Central ran short promos
all day for South Park, and I thought it looked freakin' hilarious. So I
searched the web and found the Spririt of Christmas, which reigned as the
funniest thing in existance until the movie came along. But we'll get to
that later. So I watched the first six episodes in awe. It was terrific!
But since then, I've been dragged through a show that is inconsistant at
best and boring and repetitive at its worst. How many times can they use
the sample, "Dude, this is pretty (bleep)ed up right here!" How many times
can they use the same plotline? (The pinkeye and Starvin' Marvin episodes
were exactly the same, just as SoXmas' plot was recycled in Jesus vs. Satan,
not to mention the number of times the town has faced certain doom).
I've been a faithful watcher throughout, though I terminated my website,
which was among the first ten South Park sites on the web and one of the
five most popular upon its demise, after the string of four February
episodes including Mecha Streisand, etc. As the movie drew nearer, I
groaned and lamented over how crappy it would be, since the show had done
nothing spectacular since its first episodes. Then more information leaked
out about it's true nature, and I was pleased to find a return to SoXmas'
brutal humor for another uncensored tour de force. Anyway, I just remember
waking my parents from laughing at "An elephant makes love to a pig" while I
barely smiled at the recent Sexual Harassment Panda episode. Even the movie
was inconsistant, with big laughs, but the Satan-Saddam tryst was an even
bigger bore. And the first episodes were inconsistant, too. While Anal
Probe, Big Gay Al, and Elephant were hysterical, Volcano, Kathy Lee, and
Death were not so great. But the highs have decreased while the lows have
gotten much lower.
Sorry about this incoherent rant. I'm sure many die-hard 12-yr-olds
will call me a pigfucker for this, but I just wondered if anyone felt the
same way. Respond with your thoughts,Joey Jo Jo Jr. Shabadoo
p.s.- Sorry if this shatters my arguement, but next week's episode, in which Cartman squares off with his new babysitter, Shelly, shows promise. That is, if Cartman doesn't go into the same old chauvenist rants and Matt and Trey can come up with some new material.
