The Today Show on MSNBC, what the MSf*ck where they on about?

You get the NBC today show here in Australia dontcherknow... its on rool late at night and you have to be a hard bitten internet fiend like me to watch it at all, occasionaly its entertaining, but its mostly just to pad out airtime here.

Anyway as I was late up the other night updating my non-offensive non-demoninational devoid-of-any-reference-to-SP website (www.wantree.com.au/~russells.... GOTHERENOW!!) they were crapping on about something or other when I heard them mention South Park and how it is poisoning the minds of the Youth Of America and how this godless heathen trash should be burnt and bring me the heads of Matt and Trey ( I love that word "heathen" it sounds soooo funky)Of course they didnt say it like that but they sure implied it, or, at least this is my impression, but when finallly cornered on the subject of liking the show or not, the general impression was"well...sorta"

The gist of what I'm trying to say is that there was a general impression given that the show was offensive and should be taken off the air because it is a Corrupting Influence, but surely there are far worse corrupting influences? just because the show gives the impression that its aimed at children,and the children in it are foul mouthed like adults does it mean that once its safely off the air, all the nasty things will Go Away? Of course not! and Im sure Comedy Central over there are aware of their respnsibilities and are doing all they can in the face of the sheer bloody mindedness of some of these "parents groups" who seenm to have trouble distinguishing reality from an animated TV show.

Sure, if you are concerned by what the kids are watching on tv or bringing home tucked under their arms in video cassetes do what you think is right, just dont go rioting in the streets about it cos more often than not you end up looking like an idiot.

Luckily for me, I was raised by two folks who closely monitored what shows I could watch and couldn't watch (they wouldn't let me play with toy guns either...even the ones that shoot water). Although my mom monitored more closely what I was watching, they would let me watch some of the most violent movies around (lotsa Hong Kong stuff, RoboCop, etc.) while not letting me watch Roadrunner cartoons (in HK flicks, a person gets shot, he dies. In RR cartoons, Wiley Coyote gets crushed by an anvil and he's okay...I guess my folks wanted to establish a view of what's real and what's not).

If I was raised today, there is no way in hell my folks would've let me watch South Park, Ren & Stimpy, or Beavis and Butt-Head. My mom still doesn't think Ren & Stimpy is funny (too many fart jokes). Come to think of it, my mom wouldn't let me go see Who Framed Roger Rabbit when it came out (I was 10 at the time), but she let me go see Total Recall in the theatre (rated R, I was 12 at the time).

They pretty much established that on that episode where the kids are all upset because their favorite show was taken off the air. That, my friend, was a funny episode.
