Where did the guys come up with the name South Park?

Correct me if I am wrong but I used t go to school near a South Fork in Southern Colorado. Every episode supports this. Especially the hippies who say they are from the University of Colorado but I think they are the hippies from Adams State College in Alamosa, Colorado. I was one of the hippies and everything kind if fits the profile but I guess this could be said of a few schools such as Mesa State and Colorado State Etc. It just fits with Alamosa so welll. Its weird.
