Comedy Central Booster Club

Hi

I was just wondering (as I am new to this n/g) if anybody is a member of the Comedy Central South Park Booster Club? If you don't know what it is, it is a CC run moderated listbot (sort of) that insists on having huge CC ads, websites etc but won't allow anybody else to mention a site. As an Australian, I can't get CC and I don't give a rat's ass about what is coming up on CC..................

I wrote to the moderator 2 weeks ago and (big surprise) got no repsonse and did not get my post posted. So I advise you not to join it or to get off the list if you are already on it. Besides, this n/g is much better..........it is unedited and every post is posted, just not a select few.

BTW, I am looking for FEMALE sp fan type persons over the age of 18 (I'm 25) to correspond with via email/icq (and to meet if suited if local). If you are interested, check my website for more details or email me.

I'm a Booster Club member for quite a long time, but I've never seen huge ads or websites mentioned. Ok, they won't allow subscribers to mention their websites, but that's for a good reason. If websites were allowed, a lot of abuse would be the result. Clubs that allow URL's are generally filled to the rim with irritating and irrevelant ads.

I've written a lot of messages for the BC, and almost every single one found its way into the list. And if you take a look at the messages listed, you'll notice that they're definitely not written by a "select few."

Between the start of the message and the first post, there are lately quite a few "watch CC for this, coming up on CC is this, visit this part of the CC website........."

I will not be bowing to the waist to CC or kissing their collective asses. I can not see it in Australia, the only show I like of CC's is South Park which I see on SBS in Australia, not CC. If anybody should be respected, it should be the creators.

Lately most of the posts have been about the same topic - this is why the list has got boring and the n/g is better. I feel that if your email is not about the topic of the day or close to it, you won't get published. Especially if your post does not kiss CC's ass.

You forget that it was CC who offered Matt and Trey the opportunity to make South Park after all the other networks turned their idea down. It took a lot of courage to produce a show at that time, so new and different from all other animated cartoons. So if you want to kiss SBS's ass, you have to realize that the only thing SBS did was buy CC's show at a time when it was without risk to do so.

Ignore him. Join if you want. The Digest is not a newsgroup. It started out that way, an e-mail newsgroup, but it got too bulky too quickly. So it got moderated, and only a few of the submiitted posts make it onto the Digest. I know some of my posts have been rejected and some have been admitted. Sometimes, I see a post that's better than mine, and realize why mine was rejected.

And no, you're not allowed to promote your own site for two reasons: 1. Brevity. Seeing sites all over the Digest will just increase the time you take in reading it, and surely there are things you'd rather be doing with your time than going through each site that shows up on the Digest. 2. Abuse. Unfavorable responses to your site will just clog up the Digest and ruin it for the rest of us. I have a link to the early days if you wanna see what I mean.

As for the ads, it is a CC-run Digest, as Eric notes, so CC has every right to promote itself and block all others out.

That is what I like to see, intelligent reasoning rather than simply a request to kiss Comedy Central's ass...........

The point about the CC ads that I was making is that the Digest mainly seems to be filled with advertising for CC which seems to take up more space than the Digest at times. This is very frustrating as I said in my original post as I do not get CC (because I am in Australia and not in the US, as a lot of the posts I've seen are). If I wanted to see CC advertising, I'll go to the website............

The reason I mentioned the thing in the first place is to warn people that the "Club" is not what it is made out to be especially in terms of (I can't remember the exact words used) "you will get exclusive URL's, special offers etc that no one else will."

Based on some of the crap I've read on there lately, I wonder what is the criteria for getting a post published (I do know that bagging CC will not get it done).

BTW, before anybody asks, I have unsubscribed from the "Club".

I know what you mean. Questions like, "What's your favorite Cartman moment?" or "Who's the most normal/sickest/weirdest character in South Park?" or "What's your favorite Kenny death?" don't exactly have me racing to answer. The quality of posts has gone down since the previous moderator left, but I stay on to find dyns that come up from time to time. Most days I end up breezing through the digests rather than really reading them, since most of the posts are answers to the questions. Some of the info I found on the Digest about the Halloween episode two nights ago will end up on my site, that's for sure.
