A friend of mine told me he had heard that the character who founded the Super Adventure Club was drawn to look like L. Ron Hubbard. I just checked out a site dedicated to him, and while that's not the case, there is a section about his experiences as an adventurer/explorer. Looks like Matt and Trey really did their homework!
