The song definitely sounds like it was inspired by "The Greatest Adventure" from the Hobbit. While this is the second Tolkien joke in three weeks, this is yet another Rankin/Bass homage by the bad boys of South Park.

Wacky Molestation Adventure: Kyle's letter to Castro spoofs the "Blue Christmas" letter that a girl sends to Santa in The Year Without a Santa Claus.
A Very Crappy Christmas: The episode is a direct parody of 'Twas the Night Before Christmas, specifically: -the plot (an attempt to bring the Christmas spirit back to a town that has lost it) -the poo family (a parody of the the mice family, including the idea of the eldest child question Christmas) -the Spirit of Chirstmas film (it's use in the episode paralells the clock that plays a song that welcomes Santa at midnight on Xmas, right down to it breaking down and being fixed up by the mice/poo) -the song "Even a Miracle Needs a Hand"
