parents stupid whining about Kenny...

Hey everyone. I'm new here, but I just want to put in my two cents about this. Seems like every parent is bitching about how Kenny dies in every episode but is alive the following week. Why are they all of a sudden complaining about this sort of thing? It's rediculous. A total double standard. Let's go back fifty years to a little cartoon starring Bugs Bunny and friends. How many times did we see Elmer Fudd get shot in the face with his shotgun and laugh? How many times did we see Daffy Duck get shot in the face and laugh when his beak spun around? How many times did we see Wile E. Coyote get blown up for fall off a cliff and laugh? And instead of these characters dying which is what would really happen, they were all ok 3 seconds later. Now isn't that much worse? At least when Kenny dies, he stays dead. Excpet of course for "Pinkeye". Besides, any parent who let's their kid watch South Park shouldn't complain about it. It's geared towards adults after all. Thanks for letting me get that off my chest.

Welcome and you're totally right :-) I'm new too. Well, any parent who let their children watch South Park, are bad, no good parents. So, they have nothing to complain about then. ;-) They probably are all some characters like that bitch; Mrs. Brofslovski.

I am a mom and I let my 8yr old watch Southpark. I even record it for her. And if she doesn't understand what something means, I explain it to her. She knows not to cuss until she's older and she doesn't. In fact she's even embarrassed to repeat a cuss word if she's telling me something someone said to me. I usually have to guess what the word is by the content of the rest of the sentence.

Don't make generalizations like that. I'm a great mom. My 17 yr old son's friends love me. They think I'm the coolest. No I don't buy them beer and shit, but I'll take all of them to Rocky Horror if I'm going that weekend.

Woah! Let put this out nice. YOU SHOULD NOT LET CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 10 WATCH SOUTH PARK. Teenagers can watch, it is okay. They are old enough. It is like in Jerry Springer; There was this girl who lost her virginity a 12. With a 17-19 year old guy. Then the mother made them stop dating, threw him to jail, got him out, and she is now dating him.

Parents must not do things like that. Like explaining your 8 year old daughter, what fuck means. "Yes, it is when a man and a woman and stripped in a room, then the man puts his cock into the womans pussy."

That is sick. Matt Stone and Trey Parker made this show for persons who are atleast 13. NOT for persons under 13.

You are NOT a good mother. Atleast not in that area.

Someone claiming to be "Raza Paro" wrote:

That has nothing to do with a cartoon. Is the only way you can prove your point by using Straw man arguments?

Excuse me? Do you really think I'd say it like that to her? You are out of your fucking mind.

For you to come up with that scenario is sick.

Matt and Trey made a cartoon. Period. They are not the ones that decide what age is appropriate.

Fuck you. You know nothing about me. My daughter is incredibly well adjusted, is going into the Gifted and Talented program at her school next year and is academically well above all the students in her class. I am not going to hide sex from my child. I want her to get her information from me, not out on the street like other children.

I refuse to have my daughter believe it when some guy tells her at the age of 14 or so that she can't get pregnant on her first time. She knows all about sex and there is nothing wrong with sex or her knowing about it. Sex is natural and beautiful If your parents and you are a prude that is your own damn business but shut your fucking mouth when it comes to me and my child thankyouverymuch.

Personally, if South Park just contained the profanities and the toilet humor then I think it's ok for children because these are things they hear at school everyday anyways. However, as we all know, SP is also laden with extremely explicit sexual innuendo and sexual issues that are simply inappropriate for children. Yes- at some point parents teach their child about sex or they learn it from teachers at school , but honestly now- other aspects of sex, such as oral sex and masturbation, are simply inappropriate for an 8 or 10 year old child to hear and know about, and South Park has featured these in some of their episodes. In time they of course will learn about these too, but a cartoon for adults is not the appropriate arena for that.

They have to learn sometime. What's your point?

I mean, come on now- an 8 year old can barely fathom the idea of having a remainder when subtracting, let alone grasp the notion of what I mentioned above. Junior high or high school would be more appropriate, because by then they already know about sex in general and so they can handle learning about other aspects of sex they don't teach in biology class.

Sorry, I don't agree. By junior high and high school it's too late and they are already having sex. I want her to know enough about it before then that it keeps her from trying to find out on her own. And my 8 year old daughter not only has no problems with subtraction, she can multiply already.

Atleast you a very well answer. Sorry

It is just that, I think that there is a time and age for different things. Watching South Park, I would say that the minimum limit is 11 years old. Because, if children ie. watch South Park at an early age, they might just develop a habbit of using the language in South Park. That is actually what I think is wrong. Just the language. The reason why I compared it to Jerry Springer, is because that you have to be of an certain age in order to do different thing. It doesn't mean you still can't do it, but still I think that the age should be higher than the 12-year-old girl.

You might just be an excellent mother, but, South Park is not for too young people to watch. TOO YOUNG people.

Best of Luck Raza Paro

Hehe...I was swearing at the same age as the kids on the show! It's called testing boundaries...the only thing kids MIGHT get from the show that's very derrogatory is not knowing when and where you can get away with it =)

Thanks Kim. For some reason I remember my teen years very well and couldn't and still can't understand how my parents were so stupid. Now that I'm a mom, I look at other parents and still think the same thing. I assumed at some point I would 'cross over' and do the same stupid crap or at least see why what they did wasn't so stupid. Well it hasn't happened and I'm the mother of two and I'm 34 years old. I just logic and my gut feeling. My teenage son's friends love me and would trade their parents for me anyday. And no, I don't run a Disneyland house. Everyone has responsibilities, and everyone helps, but I'm not a dictator. I ask for and listen to input.

Again, thanks for you kind words.

I totally agree here! My mom was always very over-protective of me and all, since I was her first born kid, and was way too concerned with being really strict and all, and keeping everything at about a "G-rated" level around me. Which really caused a bit more harm than benefit. As Silver said in another thread, about sex-ed, I didn't really learn much about sex until I was about 14 years old. I knew all about the physical differences between males and females, and all that stuff and that there was such a thing as sex, but I didn't know what it was. If I had been told at a younger age, I would have been able to recognize sexual harassment (some kids, when I was 13, were sexually harassing me verbally, and I had no clue what they were talking about. I thought they were annoying me with some alien language or something). If I was better educated, I would've known to report it, not be tormented for a few months.

I say, more parents should be like SilverRaven! :)

If any parents would let their kids watch something as vile as South Park, they should teach them that it is not real. See, that's the problem. Kids as young as 6 pick up on that stuff. They are still learning the world around them. Children need to understand that it is just a show, it's entertainment. I feel that kids should be protected to some degree, but that doesn't mean you can shield them from the entire world.

SilverRaven, if you let your 8-year-old daughter watch "South Park", that's fine, just as long as she doesn't walk around with a chainsaw slicing and dicing Zombies.

I'm curious.....when you watch SP with her, do you watch it ahead of her, tape it, and then "edit" it when you watch it with her the next day by fast forwarding certain parts she shouldn't see or hear? I have a 10 year old sister and that's what I used to do when I watched it with her (I can't anymore because I live far away). I don't mind my sis hearing all the swear words and the toilet humor, but there's no way I would let her hear little nuggets like, "I've been licking this carpet for hours and I still don't feel like a lesbian!" or, "The fireman is very magical. If you rub its helmet, it spits in your eye!" or of Kyle's dad needing a "neu-erection". I'll wait till she's a teen to explain such things.

Nope. As a matter of fact I don't watch it with her either. I'm usually cleaning house or something. And my daughter knows what a lesbian is. She hasn't asked about masturbation and since I haven't walked in on her doing that yet, the opportunity hasn't presented itself. And I haven't talked about technical stuff like erections yet nor has she shown any interest. But when she does, I'll tell her everything she wants to know in terms she can understand. In fact...I think parents say yes and let them watch just so they can whine about how "disgusting" it is and forbid their children from watching it. Then they have something else to bring up at those damn PTA meetings, and they can lead ANOTHER pointless protest about "the filth shown on television today"! It's a conspriracy, I tell you!
