My take on the whole age of SP fans thing

Since the beginning of this newsgroup there have been a lot discussions about younger fans of the show not getting a lot of the jokes. I think that one of the humorous things about the show is the subtle (and blatant) references to other things in "pop" culture. I'm 16, so I guess that puts me as a younger fan, and I understood every little reference in last night's episode, and I think that made it so much funnier. But until today I didn't really realize how many of the jokes went over younger kids' heads. This morning I had to ride the cheese to school (thanks to my ride who called 5 minutes before she was supposed to pick me up saying that she wasn't going to school today) and so I was pissed off, because riding the bus is hell. But I was sitting behind a couple 7th graders who were discussing last night's SP. And then I realized how little of the show they actually understood. Some clips of their conversation: - "and then some singer lady came to steal that triangle from what's that fat kids name?" - "and some black guy turned into a big turtle thing and i think it was supposed to be like the Power Rangers" - "Kenny died by getting strangled by some ball thing" - "Kenny turned into a duck in that pink eye episode" - "then some weird rock singer guy killed the big monster" - "the kid with the green hat got the triangle"

They really didn't have a clue as to what half the show was about, and I really can't imagine how they can enjoy the show. Just was something I'd like to share...

Here's my take on SP maturity. I'd mention my age but as so many of you have seen, age and maturity do not go hand in hand, and the mentioning of one age is in my opinion, and act of immaturity in such a debate :)

No one cares about your age, mentioning it is quite counter productive in such a discussion.

Wow, young children don't get the jokes, what did you expect? Does it make you feel big now that you understand them?

Well, the explanation of your journey to school was certainly informative, if immature and unnecessary as well.

Huh... the little children don't understand any of the more mature themes in the show. So what? It's probably better that way. They interperate the meaning of the show on their level of understanding, why should anyone else give a shit?

I can't imagine why you'd care if they knew what half the show was about. Don't talk about your age George, and for god's sake stay off the maturity subject, k? thanx

I think you missed the point. He was saying that despite his age he still got the jokes and assumed that others did as well. Then he proceeded to relate a humorous story about how younger fans didn't get the jokes. Thus, the age of the people in the story and the poster is quite relevant and not counter-productive.

He obviously expected the kids to get the jokes because he did. I'm sure something could be said about that assumption, but such musing aren't germane to this post. I think you're bitter because someone else understood something that you didn't, but that's just my opinion.

Do you understand the concept of a story at all?

I took it as humorous comentary on how people can watch the show without understanding a thing about it, simply because it's the cool thing to do and they have to keep up so they can talk about it in school. I know a few seniors like that, so it also transcends age. Perhaps you're so young that you have yet to experience these events and thus can't realte, leading to this obvious hostility that you have.

Again with the bitterness. You totally missed the point of the original post, didn't you?

Just because I'm feeling special, here's my profile of one Cort Tompkins, based solely on this post. Cort is younger than the majority of the posters here and is insecure about it, as well as his age in general. This is a shame, for despite his age Cort shows signs of intelligence which are generally lacking in this group. Besides the 'thanx', this was a well written and formatted post, if not very well thought out. It's too bad that it was a post for the dark side. In short, try and work past your insecurities, accept that you are younger than the majority of the world and move on with your life. If anyone gives you crap about what you do or your age, tell them to fuck off and keep doing what your doing. You have to be comfortable and respectful of yourself before others will be that way to you.

Me and my coworker are 38 and we are having a blast. Our wives though are thinking of separation. they already stay in the kitchen while it's on....but they won't make us that damn pie!!!
