Why hasn't Global TV here in Canada ever rerun the "Big Gay Al" episode since its original showing sometime last fall, whereas every other episode from the same period has been rerun at least once. They've even gone on to rerun some of the more recent episodes, but I've never caught the Big Gay Al episode again. Are they afraid to show it again because the theme condones homosexuality (Ellen's conspiracy theory again) or is it because of the out-of-line remark made by the football game commentators ("I haven't seen a Jew run like that since Poland of 1936" or something to that effect, in reference to Kyle running madly with the ball to score a TD during a football game)? Or is it the scene where Al takes Stan on the boat ride and equates Christians and Republicans with the Nazis as the oppressors? In any case, I thought it was one of the best episodes, and it would be a tragedy if they refuse to air it again because it offended some people who shouldn't have been watching in the first place.

I've been wondering the same thing. "Big Gay Al" is the one ep. I don't have on tape! I don't know what the schedule is like in your area, but here in Winnipeg Global is playing SP this Thursday at 10PM and is having a SP marathon Friday from 12AM to 3AM. If they don't play "Big Gay Al" in any of these 7 episodes I would think all hope is pretty much lost.

I've never seen it repeated either. I was fortunate enough to tape it the first time. In fact, it was the first South Park I seen. Almost pissed my pants the first time I watched it. Also showed it to many others who saw this episode as their first one. Definately a good one to see for the first time.

My fave KITH skit would have to be the one where this guy is trying to get his friend's attention from outside his house. Then he starts doing all sorts of crazy things, until he eventually sets the guy's house on FIRE. Then his friend comes home.
But back to SP, I had absolutely no problem with the line about equating Christians to Republicans to Nazis, even though I happen to be Christian myself. Christianity is seriously one of the most narrow minded schools of thought to ever exist. People disagree, then I bring up holy wars, inquisitions, crusades, etc. etc. etc.
The Big Gay Al one is actually one of my faves...it's just too bad I didn't manage to get it on tape when I first saw it in November. I was actually waiting for that episode to come on when they were doing the re-runs...
I THINK they're going to be showing it soon, or at least it's on the schedule in America...oh well, I can always blow $24CDN and pick it up at the local A&B Sound...

How can you say that holy wars, the inquisiton and the crusades represent Christianity? These examples of brutality are the result of people forcing their beliefs on others. Christianity on the other hand offers individuals a chance to accept a belief system on their own accord. After all, you will never force a person into the kingdom of Heaven. I do accept the fact that God did tell the Isrealites to make war with other tribes and to kill all of them but this was His will and there is a difference between His will and the will of any human.

#1 I'm not sure what this has to do with Southpark. #2 Because all of these atrocities were done in the name of Christianity. If you deny that, then you deny what those people involved believed. Be it true of false, that's what they believed. And you know how Christians can be.

Fortunately, my Christian/Catholic upbringing was a bit more liberal than the common view of Christianity.
You do have a point, though. I don't believe in forcing religion on anyone. People who want to be saved will be (sorry if I'm sounding preachy). Thing is, people have accepted this view of all Christians as bible-thumping, self-righteous, holier-than-thou, anal retentive types. I learned this first hand when I went away from Catholic high school to university.
But, getting back to South Park, I appreciate it because it is all religious satire, not anti-religious or anti-semetic. To anyone who feels the show is blasphemous (with the possible exception of "Spirit of Christmas"), I always point them out to "Mr. Hankey The Christmas Poo". To all those who feel the show is a bad influence on children, I point them to "Death". To anyone who feels the show is racist, I point them out to "Pink Eye". Etc, etc, etc.
To elaborate on what I tried to say on Big Gay Al, there was a lot of controversy over that episode because of the negative portrayal of Christians. But the thing is, republicans, nazis, and christians have been the biggest anti-gay schools of thought (although Christianity is becoming a bit more accepting of it as of late). I live in a city where they're trying to ban books because of the "homosexual" content. One book is about a household with two fathers. Hey, didn't we used to have a TV show about that starring the guy from "Mad About You"?

I saw an ad for a 6-episode (3 hour!) marathon of South Park for this coming Friday (the 15th) on Global. I checked the TV listings, and they gave plot summaries for 4 of them: (1) Pinkeye (2) Big Gay Al (the one episode I haven't seen! apart from the original 5-minute things) (3) _SOMETHING_ dealing with Cartman finding out who his dad is (this could be Cartman's Mom part 1, 2, or if the listings are sneaky, Terrence & Phillip) (4) Mr. Hankey
I don't know what the other two episodes are, but I'm kinda itching to get a fresh videotape. :> I wanna see Death again, that was good.
"Big Gay Al" was rerun back in December. It was shown on Dec. 5th in Winnipeg, and Dec. 12th in Vancouver. (I went from Wpg to Vancouver that week.) Since then, I suspect that it just hasn't come up in rotation. Some of the others don't seem to have come up too often, either. I don't think I've seen Weight Gain 4000 lately, for example.
They reran the newer ones after Terrance and Phillip. I was happy because I got to see Tom's Rhinoplasty.
Well, both times I saw it the Poland 1938 comment wasn't there, so I doubt that's an issue.
I'm still annoyed that Global in Winnipeg is still showing the Non-Dildo version of Cartman Gets an Anal Probe.

Was that a rerun? I thought that was the original showing. I notice that all of the episodes originally aired in 1997 has been shown at least once in 1998 with the exception of "Big Gay Al". Heck, the "Anal Probe" episode has been shown twice this year here in Vancovuer. As for "Weight Gain 4000" episode, that was shown again a month or two ago, at least on the Vancouver Global affiliate.
