nitpicking- characters' ages

Did anyone else notice that when the gang moved on to the 4th grade, they remained 8 years old? Makes them a little young for 4th grade, although I guess some people start the grade at 8 years old and turn 9 in the fall. But further, Scott Tenneman (sp?) was said to be in the 8th grade and 15 years old (when he should have been 13- or even 12 to be 4 years older than the 4th grade kids, or in the 10th grade if he was indeed 15). It didn't seem like he would have flunked two grades or anything. I guess they don't always pay that much attention to detail on South Park, but this kind of bothered me as a very lazy inconsistency.

I think Scott was actually mentioned as being in the 9th grade, later in the episode. Hell, maybe he was like me and started school when he was 5 and skipped a grade or two.

Near as I can recall, a ninth grader can be 14 when he enters the grade and turn 15 in the spring semester. But if Scott is an eighth grader who is 15, then he's one slow kid. As for the boys, they are now 9, being in fourth grade and all. Cartman is 10. Matt and Trey are just too lazy to make them grow a few inches to match their ages.

When was it said that the boys are now 9 and Cartman is 10? I've heard their ages referred to as 8 (still) in a couple of 4th grade episodes now.

No, it didn't bother me, 'cause that was the magic of the series: to be eight and in third grade forever, didn't matter how many Christmases they celebrated. But now that the boys are in fourth grade, they can't stay eight, not if they go through Halloween and Christmas this year. If they're still eight after Christmas, that magic is lost.

The Mr. Hanke Xmas Special doesn't really count -- it could theoreticaly be the same year as the first one or the 2nd. And for that matter, all three could have happened in one year.

Agreed on the first point, though it's more likely to be the same year as the second (he was more familiar by then).

Disagreed on the second point, as Kyle's friends didn't think Mr. Hankey was real in the first year (and no one else had met him until the very end), while in the second year Mr. Hankey already had a Christmas movie of his own, "The Grinchy Poo," and kids from all over went to the mall to meet the Mall Hankey.
