I realize that most people are not going to read this, because I am that annoying character. And am not a regular with years under my belt, like Covenant, and new people in this group aren't allowed to attack the Elitist Regulars, they have served their time. This guy makes me feel like I am back in the Marines.
I bring this up because I have seen many posts about this. There are people claiming that the last few episodes do not match the first few episodes, that Trey Parker and Matt Stone are becoming politically conservative due to content of last few shows, and that Trey Parker needs to cut out the "statements" that he is making. What I can't understand is the people that think the offensive statements are funny until they get offended and are then turned off by the whole comedic act, such Dave Webb who claims that he was a huge fan until he saw the movie. For me, that just adds more hilarity to an already ingenius script. These two guys are at a height of "stardom" (whatever that means) and they choose to offend their "fans." This is awesome for those of us that love anarchy and chaos.
I find it moronic to believe that these two gentlemen have conservative, and the statement lacks faith in logic I believe that the word that hte certain individuals are looking for is politically incorrect. When they are making statements for and against the Brazilian rainforest, I really think that they could care less whether the rainforest are chopped down and the end of civilization as we know it (I know I couldn't). What they are doing is a satirization, how they imagine a larger percent of America. They hold up a mirror and are saying, "This is what you look like to us." Satire. If it offends, then you must question your beliefs, Why is that offensive? How did I come to the point of this belief? Where did I learn this belief from? and Who cares if that rainforest is chopped down? I am not saying that you should change your beliefs to fit Trey Parker's or Matt Stone's, but I am saying that we, as a country, need to question our beliefs and practices. And if after serious questioning, we come up with the result, then that's great because you have a better understanding of why you believe what it is that you believe and wouldn't that be just great? Just because Greenpeace tries to do good things doesn't mean that they are as open-minded as they would have you to believe. In fact, I am not sure if any of you have talked to these tree-huggers but I have made more headway to a resolution in a conversation with a Pat Buchanan/Rush Limbaugh dittohead.
As for Trey Parker to stop making the "statements," I really don't think that they will stop that anytime soon. The only problem I foresee is they cannot top themselves on Comedy Central what they did in that movie. Once again, the statements are the satire. I may be alone in this opinion, but I love them. The sardonic humor that these gentlemen portray is genius. If you are not laughing, then once again, you must Why? Is it because you are offended? and why are you offended?
As for the people that think the show has lost some quality, I actually believe that there has been a resurgence of quality thrusted back into the program these last two months. They are back on track with the Spirit of Christmas episode.
At least, this is my opinion. I could be wrong, but hope that others that respond to this are going to have a thought out argument not just telling to go lick my own taint. Although, I realize that most in this newsgroup would deem that progessive, I don't it has any merit in the discussion. Just because you can recite Cartman's invocation of vulgarities to spew at another doesn't mean that you are funny, it just means that you don't have an original thought (D. G. Porter).
Well, Toni - there! I have tried to begin an intelligent (somewhat) conversation, I hope that it is reciprocal.
