I never saw the TV show, but I remember him from numerous commercials, most notably Cerritos Auto Square in the So. California area. He always made me laugh. I believe he also played Jed in the Beverly Hillbillies movie and did one of the voices for Toy Story 2, as well as his "Ernest" movies. He was an L.A. treasure. And yes, as was posted, he was 50 and died from lung cancer. We lost Charles Schultz and Ernest within days of each other! What a shitty week for comedy, eh?

The first time I saw Ernest was in tv commercials for some ice cream out in Dallas. I forget if it was a store or a brand, but he'd poke his head in the window and get all over "Vern" aboot it.
Charles Schultz died? Man I need to keep oop with my news.
BTW: I got to touch an OMS pod yesterday. An actual piece of space shuttle! (Those bumps on either side of the tail. Who wants to touch ME? =)))

It's good to know there were others out there who thought he was special. He always made me laugh my ass off with those commercials. He was a part of my childhood too, and I'm gonna miss the old lunkhead... :o(
