"Mrs." Cartman?

Why is Mrs. Carman referred to as "Mrs."? Was she ever actually married or is it just a respect thing?

Yes, politeness authorities agree that any woman with children is "Mrs."

Once you have a child, people tend to refer to you as Mrs. whether you've ever been married or not. My son's teachers always refer to me as "Mrs. Morrison", even though I have never been married. And I'm sure divorced mothers who have taken back their maiden name and go by Miss So-and-So probably are referred to as Mrs. by the teachers, either with their married or maiden last name. And teachers (as long as they aren't like Mr. Garrison) do know the family situations, and whose mom is never married and whose mom is divorced, etc...
