PLEDGE pt II

Hi guys. Well, things are looking not-to -bad pledge-wise. I've taken note of 19 names so far and noticed 6 that have answered to 'certain posters' since I posted the pledge. (None of whom are on the Pledge!! Good Thang!! But no Public Outcry yet, wait til the pledge grows a little more!!)

Although I'm not sure about Martin Hazelblower's reply Mike Lee's reply. (Although it was humourous!)

Special mention must go to LEESPAM who, after posting and leaving his sig. (cos I asked if you wouldn't) then REposted without it!! Good ol' LEESPAM!!!

I'm gonna leave it until the end of this week (prob monday.) and then I shall post the full pledge list!

(And if you deviate .. well Jeff's the enforcer!! OOpps!!)

Anyway guys/gals/cartton cut-outs keep up the good work!! I've seen one posting that HAS been ignored so far!!!

Just one more question, though. Is it okay for us to reply to people who *do* reply to trolls messages, just to tell them they're idiots? I think that I should be allowed to at least (that's the whole reason I wanted to be the enforcer!)

Nope, it's continueing the troll thread. If you must reply, email the person that is responding to the troll. And if you really can't stop yourself and don't mind being lumped in with the group of troll feeders, then at least trim the newsgroups. Either cut all the groups out but this one, or cut this group out of the posting. Either way, you'll cut down the spam to the group :-)

I know what you're talking about, but I really did mean to post it to all the newsgroups. What's the point of replying to the message and cutting out all the newsgroups but this one? In that particular case, the person I was responding to was from the Spice Girls newsgroup. So, id I'd responded to her and cut out everything but this group, she never would have seen the reply and there wouldn't have been any point to it. Likewise, if I cut out JUST this group, I'll never see it because I don't subscribe to any of the MTV groups or whatever (my only groups are this one, the furby one, and a bunch of baseball ones).

How's about once a week/month(?) YOU post up a thread called REPENT! or some such. and name names of those who have broken the pledge?

To be honest I'm not really trying to set myself up as any kind of watchdog for this NG, (although I don't mind if that happens), but this is one of the friendliest (usually) NG's I subscribe to , espec. considering the average age of the posters. One of the Simpsons NG's has a terrible prob right now with trolls and morons posting terrible abuse to others, (I hate to say they are usually Web-TV users).

Let's keep the pledge in mind and hold back from the keyboard when the lunatics drop in. It will be worth it. As some of you have said already, Ignore 'em and they loose their reason for 'being here' in the first place. They crave attention, let's deprive them OF it!!

Jeff, I'm sure no-one doubts your zeal, but we don't want YOU to become the focus of people who may not KNOW about the pledge or who, for whatever reason, choose to ignore it. Maybe you could point them to it and ask if they'd change their ways??
