I enjoyed tonight's episode, though I only laughed out loud twice, I liked the story and the take on Terri Schiavo and the feeding tube. It was interesting all the way through. Too bad about Kenny dying, though. I'll miss seeing him. ;-)
Finally a decent episode

I liked this episode too. Actually, I have enjoyed all of them so far. Say, didn't Mrs. Cartman's voice seem a bit different? At first I thought that Satan's voice was different too, but when I reviewed my recording, it sounded the same as it always did, but didn't Satan's horns look longer and more curved?
"Patrick D. Rockwell" wrote in message news:72%2e.16679$[email]...
1. I didn't notice Mrs. Cartman's voice sounding different, but I wasn't paying that close attention. 2. Satan's voice did seem different, but I believe you that it was the same... But dammit, SOMEthing was very different about him, and it seems like it had to have been more than just his horns... Maybe he just doesn't look or sound the same without Saddam hanging around? I don't know.
I hope the eps continue improving!

They drew him differently. His beard was different, and other things, like the detail on his horns. IIRC.
I really liked the take on the Terri S. crap too.
Well, the core message was bogus (it's murder, no matter what you say) but the way they portrayed the circus of people around Kenny as the opportunistic jackoffs they are (were, since Schiavo is now dead) was brilliant.

I've spent the better parts of 2 weeks arguing this in every manner and forum on the internet and in real life. It's murder. That's not an opinion, it's a declaration. If you don't agree, that's your problem. Attempting to argue otherwise will only lead to frustration on your part.

Legally, it wasn't murder. Unless you know something the high courts don't. Please share it and your credentials as the greatest legal mind in the world.
If you are coming from a religious viewpoint, then you are right, it would be useless to argue.

Didn't anyone catch the "Last Starfighter" references in the last episode?? It's an 80s si-fi flick where aliens recruit starfighters by using videogames on earth. A good flick and one of the first movies to use extensive CGI (after Tron).

Hey, how come nobody ever talks about John Paul I? The first one, the one who got murdered a month after being named pope. They poisoned him because he was "too liberal", would have OK'd birth control. Then they cremated him to prevent an autopsy. Now THAT was murder, not the Schiavo case.

On a sidenote, I can say with equal resolve that if I had been run over by that truck instead of Kenny, the state wouldn't have been bothered with the burden of whether I should live or die since I am already technically brain-dead and noone in my family would miss me that much.

I am going to make a living will so that if I am ever unable to say my name, add 2 + 2, or feed myself, and my only activity is shitting and pissing into diapers, then I want them to yank the feeding tube and inject me with enough morphine to kill me ten times over. If they kept me alive in that state, I'd hope reincarnation was real and I could come back as a bear and chew their fucking faces off. Forcing my body to stay alive when my mind is basically dead would be far, far worse than murdering me. But I can't speak for anyone else on this.
Well, maybe in Terri's case it was murder, because I only know from hearsay what the situation was. Tell me, what exactly did Terri say her wishes were about what was to be done if a situation like this occurred?
"That Guy" wrote in news:[email]:
Well said.
Yup.
Her husband says that she had told him that she would never want to live like that. Her parents say he's lying. (How they know that, I can't say.)
The husband's brother said that the father was pissed that he didn't get any of the settlement money (almost all of which was spent on medical care and legal fees), and threatened to get back at the husband any way he could. The father denies it.
The husband hired an independent counsel to represent Terri's wishes to the courts. That counsel consulted with many doctors who examined Terri. They all said she was completely unconscious, unaware, and would never recover.
Recently, two doctors have come forward to disagree with that prognosis. Neither of them actually examined her, but based their opinions on a five-year-old video tape. One was a guy who claimed to be able to cure her for a huge amount of money. He is universaly labeled a quack by experts in the field. The other was Bill Frist, who is Republican leader in the Senate. I can imagine what his motivation is.
All the many, many court judgements have accepted the independent representative's (and the husband's) claims that Terri would not have wanted to be kept alive like that, and rejected the parents' claim otherwise.
"That Guy" wrote in message news:[email]...
She said she wouldn't want to be indefinitely "hooked up to a machine" (which a feeding tube is not, contrary to the way Matt and Trey portrayed it).
The judge in the case relied on the testimony of an "expert" who claimed that when a person who was her age in our country says "hooked up to a machine", they actually mean something other than "hooked up to a machine".
Here's the excerpt from Judge Greer's ruling:
. . . "The testimony of Ms. Beverly Tyler, Executive Director of . . . Georgia Health Discoveries, clearly establishes that the . . . expressions made by Terri Schiavo to these witnesses are . . . those type of expressions made in those types of . . . situations as would be expected by people in this country . . . in that age group at that time. They (statements) reflect . . . underlying values of independence, quality of life, not to . . . be a burden and so forth. "Hooked to a machine" means . . . they do not want life artificially extended when there is . . . not hope of improvement."

"Bob" wrote in message news:[email]...
Her death certificate disagrees with you.
It's bad enough when quacks lie and claim they can tell "for certain" how a person's brain is functioning based on the physical attributes shown in a CAT-scan. Brain tissue doesn't regenerate when destroyed, but the remaining tissue does restructure itself on the microscopic level to try to take over the functions of other parts of the brain that have been damaged or lost. Nobody knew for certain whether or not Terri was, on some level, aware of what was going on.
(Although her husband seemed to believe that she was, since his lawyer said the reason he wouldn't allow her family to be there was because he didn't want an argument to take place in front of her in the last moments when she died.)

What does B.F.F. signify? I know that it stands for "Best Friends Forever", but I remember people in SouthPark saying, "We have to respect the BFF" when they saw Carman wearing one. So, was it symbolic of a common law marriage or something like that?
I wonder how Carman got the necklace around Kenny's neck? When nobody was looking maybe? Kenny stated in his will that he DIDN'T consider Cartman a friend at all. :-)

Yeah, I was hoping for a much more offensive schiavo take off. It seemed like it was just sort of glommed onto a fairly lame take on that city (pronounce it as with "wok")keanu movie. Decent episode, but there was so much more to work with that was left on the table.

It was ok, but not great. They should have been more subtle with the movie references. It was like, "Look here, we are doing a parody of the Matrix and the Lord of the Rings, with a little Star Wars mixed in." Sony must be happy with the free ad.
Matrix is warner brothers and lord of the rings is new line both studios owned by AOL Time Warner while Star Wars is 20th Century Fox so where sony fits in I dunno

I thought it was fascinating how they kept making Matrix references when the whole 'boy masters video game so he is the chosen one who must save Heaven/The known Universe' plot came straight out of The Last Starfighter, a movie I hadn't thought about for decades until the show the other night.
