Other "Flashback" Parodies in TV History

... are pretty damn rare.

However, last night's SP did remind me of an 80's Saturday Night Live with Justine Bateman as the host. They did a parody sketch of "Family Ties" where every flashback to an old episode had its OWN flashback to an even EARLIER episode... so the whole thing just turned out to be a series of about five nested flashbacks. The culmination was when the dialogue went: "Yeah, and we all sat around watching The Jeffersons. Remember that episode of The Jeffersons...?" which turned into a flahsback of a TV set airing a Jeffersons episode. (Not unlike the "Happy Days" joke in SP...)

Yes, it's a parody of those "flashback" episodes, recycling old episode footage, but it also incorporates the "Roshomon" parodies, where everyone retells the identical flashback a different way, making himself the hero. Good Times, Flying Nun, my favorite was in Anything But Love where they each take turns explaining how the restaurant burned down, and when the Italian guy explains the flashback is black and white and subtitled, and all the men wear sunglasses.The movie Courage Under Fire is a serious example, as was the Paper Chase episode about a suicide, and of course Roshomon itself, which plays occasionally on Bravo.

The kids don't all tell the same flashback, though.

...or on an X-Files episode when Mulder see's the local policeman as a buck-toothed dork and Scully remembers him has a beautiful hunk of a man... funny stuff.
