'Cuz of the games they play!

Finally saw this at 2 AM last night! I am going to get the CD. FWIW I am a working musicologist and these two guys (Matt & Trey) are FUCKING BRILLIANT COMPOSERS! The Draidle <sp???> Song is as good as anything written by Henry "Hank" Purcell.

I don't know: I've always felt that Abdelazar was superior to What Would Brian Boitano Do.

Well, part of it was good enough for Britten to appropriate -- but I was thinking of the round "Pox on you for a fop."

Okay then. What about Dido and Aeneas?

I'm guessing you know this already, since you're a musicologist and all, but the Dreidel song is a Hebrew traditional. I'm not disagreeing with you about Parker, but his contribution to that tune was pretty much limited to Gerald Broflovski's profession of his love for Courteney Cox.

Didn't know it was an existing tune, but like Henry VIII would, they added [two] new counterpoints to it. Heh, I seriously doubt Cartman's part is "traditional"!

He also did lots of other minor singing parts in the movie soundtrack, like Gregory's singing voice.

Well, they certainly weren't using a regulation draydel. It looked like it had about six sides and had the Hebrew letter Yod on it. A traditional draydel has four sides with the letters Nun, Gimmel, Hei, and Shin.

So the verse that Cartman sings, "Jews, play stupid games; Jews, that's why they're lame.", is TRADITIONAL?

Aw, weak, Dude!

Make sure you put in a kind word for Marc Shaiman. He's the film composer who co-wrote many of the songs in BLU and the Mr. HAnkey's Christmas album. I don't believe Matt Stone does ANY of the songwriting...It's Trey with the musical chops!

Isn't Matt also in DVDD? (And if you say "He's only the drummer" I'm going to send Satan over there to fuck YOUR big red ass!) Thanks for info on Marc though.

He's only the drummer......

Actually, he didn't drum on Chef Aid, he played Bass, but Trey is the one who composes along with Marc Shaiman. They're both great, they just do different things, c'mon, they're not siamese twins, One of them probably isn't even circumsized! (joke)

DIE DIE DIE DIE!!!!!!!!! Oh, wait, you're a chick, right? Meheheheheheheheh! Hey, baby, ever been with an older man, uh huh-huh-huh!

Cool percussion instruments: Timpani (when you're the timpanist, no one else can play your drums) Lion's roar (staple in Varese) Tam-tam (often mistakenly referred to as "gong") Large (36" diameter) bass drum (need I say more?) Bass-clef tubular bells (better be 6' to reach the tops of these) Plattenglocken (even cooler than bass-clef tubular bells) Anything made by Harry Partch

I would NEVER say "he's just a drummer". I'm a musician...I LOVE percussionists! ;-)

Seriously, Matt is the bassist, I think, but I still don't think he writes songs.

Sure. 'cause they're easy target for the real musicmakers. The way dentists are seen as 'less than doctors', so to are drummer seen as 'less than musicians'.

Bass is the real backbone of any musical composition.

Musician jokes:

  • How did the musician end up with $5,000,000?

He started with $100,000,000

  • What do you call a musician without a girlfriend?

Homeless

  • How can you tell when the band's set is level?

When the drummer is drooling from both corners of his mouth

Thought Cartman said "lame".

Um, "lame" doesn't really rhyme with "play."
