I kinda have a difference of opinion here. I think that Beavis and Butthead was funny for the first season, but after that it got worse and worse, and now I don't even notice that it's on TV. So far I think that South Park has shown a bit more staying power, and I really hope that it can remain as popular as it is. I'm not completely sure, but I think that South Park has higher initial ratings than B&B did. I think that Beavis and Butthead just got blown out of proportion too early. Well, let's all knock on wood and hope that South Park has great staying power, and will be around for a few years, while keeping original show ideas!

Did anyone watch the Beavis & Butthead episodes when they first appeared on MTV's liquid television? They were so much more harsh than the later ones. They sniffed glue and talked about doing other drugs, beat up animals, REALLY downgraded women and girls and totally blasted all forms of rap music even worse than Wham or New Kids on the Block. When they got their own show things started to change. All of the above references were slowly toned down and even reversed in the case of rap music. Then FIRE, FIRE was removed and thus much of the original appeal of the show was gone. I still watched it though but shook my head more than I laughed. There are only so many "penis and butt" jokes that can be told before it gets old.
A freind of mine has all the liquid TV episodes on tape so I will be able to enjoy what I think B&B should really be like. It is a shame that a show that was created to be so politically incorrect let PC'ness take over. Good old PC society & liberal MTV (although I admit that the removal of FIRE was not MTV's idea and I credit them for fighting it to a losing effort).
I hope SP does not let this happen to them. As the mainstream learns about this show, however, the chances of it happening increase all the time.

Ahhh memories, i think Mike Judge also did those cartoons about the office worker who was always picking his nose "if they take away my stapler im going to burn the building down". I long for the days when beavis and butthead where breathing paint thinner fumes.
I hope South Park has enough integrity not to tone down when the heat
is on

-------------------------Actually, the show became popular, nickelodeon fired him (supposedly for putting too many adult themed jokes in), and picked up the rights. For a while there, John K's name wasn't even listed in the credits.
Your right though, nothing of ren and stimpy was as good as the first 6 episodes of the series.

Wormer, he's a dead man! Marmalard: dead! G. Murphy:
The bowdlerizing (look it up) of Beavis and Butt-Head occurred after MTV was stupid enough to air the show at 7 PM. And only then did they notice that, surprise surprise, young kids were emulating the two. You never heard of any teenagers burning babies or dropping bowling balls off buildings; no, it was always the 5-6-7 year olds, with the occasional idiot-boy 13-year-old snorting nutmeg. Parents are dumb, parents are lazy, parents automatically think that if it's animated then it's safe for kids because -all- cartoons are safe for kids. At least Comedy Central has enough common sense this time to smack a TV-MA rating on South Park and air it at 10, with reruns in the late night time. I know a lot of yammering morons are decrying the slapping of that scarlet TV-MA on the show but I welcome it, as long as it keeps the kids away from it. Not that it will, but there's always hope.

Hey, kids! If I ever catch you emulating the amusing scamps on South Park through farting fire on account of your alien anal probe, bulking up on Weight Gain 4000, trying to create pot-bellied elephants, kicking the baby, or shooting rare animals with semiautomatic weapons, I'll get ba chomp chomp chewy chomp on your ass! Guaranteed!

Take a look around. Spelling is not a strong point of the entire Internet crowd. Apparently no one has a spell check or bothers to proofread anything. While Ill admit Ive seen more than my share of uninformed posts from AOLers, characterizing all of them as idiots is even stupider. And as always, everyone feel free to follow this post with "Fu*k You," or something similar.
