No, this was a grand slam. They nailed liberal hippy douches perfectly.

Whatever. Even before it stopped being funny (a long time ago, btw), SP had an annoying habit of spoofing (i.e. "ripping") completely irrelevant social and cultural issues, as is the case with the recent episode's "Clooney Oscar acceptance speech".

First of all, only the most rabid asshole conservatives care about such a thing to begin with, and second, I suppose telling any fundamentalist, religious, conservative, fascist, moral hypocrite freak that his "family values" discrimination is shit that makes him a lowlife scum and by definition a vile and disgusting human being, placing him on the same level as any degenerate low-IQ idiot that supports suppressing basic human rights of their fellow man, telling such a man this I suppose can be labeled "smug" in certain circles. I just wouldn't want to advertise myself as a part of such circles, that's all.

I mean, seriously, of all the shit affecting the country nowadays, the best you can come up with is "Clooney is smug"???

Get fucked.

I'd love to. What's your mother doing tonight?

Oh, wow, how original. You must be the pinnacle of wit and humor in your kindergarten. You should start writing for South Park. The way they've been writing for the last few years, you'll fit right in.

That's what I'm wondering about you.

If you're gonna spew epithets for no good reason, you'd better be ready to take them as well.

But I'm wondering still, how does that wonderful humanitarian George "Charlton Heston deserves Alzheimer's" Clooney feel about his old friends Matt & Trey busting his chops?

Agreed.

Last week's episode (Chef returns) was masterful, the kind that makes me willing to kiss the creators' rear ends with gratitude.

But dudes, as a midwesterner who couldn't afford a hybrid the last time I changed cars, I don't know a single hybrid owner who's smug (or who thinks/knows they lower emissions). Hybrids are purchased by the poor to save gas money.

The idea that people who make sacrifices to benefit all suffer for their upright choices (either by being persecuted for them or simply by suffering the consequences of the majority's non-altruistic point of view) was a good topic, but the show only tip-toed around that for a split second before running for cover.

Your genius would have been far better applied to the question of when, how and if SUV ownership is immoral.

You can't afford a hydrid, but poor people buy them? Not sure I follow...

All in the timing. The last time I changed cars was right before gas skyrocketed. Hybrids cost $2,000 more than non-hybrid 'equivalents' at the time. Doing the math over the life of a car, it did not compute that the hybrid would save me $2,000 in gas costs. Then, just a few bloody months later, the price of gas jumped so high, a hybrid could have saved me the price differential in just a few years and then gone on to save me a fortune over the life of the car.

[Insert string of expletives here.]

But about a month ago I read another analysis that said they really don't save you any money when you factor in maintenance. Especially the expensive battery pack. You get an 8/80 warranty, but unless the price of the battery pack drops dramatically in the next few years, you will wind up paying more than with a regular car. And then of course there are the braking generators, another expensive electrical component that is bound to fail eventually, and all the other exotic components that make up the electrical assist system.

Went and tested my two co-workers. One was operating under the same info/assumptions as I. The other* knew the cars weren't economical in the long run and said, "Everything I've read says you buy a hybrid because you support the cause."

So, where midwestern N=3 (sample size, for you non stats people), Matt and Trey barely achieve statistical significance (33%) with their episode. But I'm open to the possibility that my sample is not only ludicrously small, it's freakishly invalid.

*Coincidentally, the well-read subject is one of those noble humans who is tormented unceasingly by the guilt-ridden defensive assholes of the world who despise having their selfishness exposed by proximity to altruistic decency.

Maybe not. Replacement cost for a battery pack will be over $3k; they are expected to have a median life of about 180k miles. So you will have a choice of replacing a major componenet on a car with most likely other problems or trading the car in for virtually nothing. Plus there are no stats on the disposal costs of the old battery pack.

There've been a couple seasons now where it starts with an ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!!!!! episode, which is followed up by a few mediocre and kinda lousy episodes.........but then it WRAPS UP WITH AN AWESOME EPISODE!!!!

Kinda weird.......but hey, I'd rather have mediocre South Parks than none at all.

Oh... but to be fair, I should add that the Clooney material was masterful.
