Well, for starters, they embarrassed the fuck out of the MPAA (they set G, PG, R, etc.), so if they made another movie, it would have to be tame (crap; commercial disaster) or get an NC-17 (commercial disaster as well).

Gee, I always thought gate receipts talked more loudly than the personal sensibilities of a powerful few.

Maybe they should make another motion picture for international release outside of the USA, if the powers that be in the MPAA will block its distribution or marketability within the country. Being men of conviction and principle, and given their cunning revolutionary nature, I thought Matt and Trey might just use the global nature of today's media to circumvent the censors. Make it the talk of the world outside of the USA, and I'm sure the American fans will be clamouring for its release within the country.

They won't make another movie. If they were to, it wouldn't be nearly as good and would be disappointing to everyone expecting another BLU.

Yes, gate receipts do talk more loudly. Much more loudly. And that's why it's extremely unlikely that there will be another South Park movie. If there is another movie -- released here in the USA or elsewhere -- it needs to do well in the USA financially. If it gets an NC-17 rating, that spells commercial death...in theaters and video rental stores. (Many of these establishments won't show/carry such-rated movies or unrated ones.) By making the MPAA look like idiots with the first movie, they have ensured that they will not get the more commercially viable R rating unless they make any second movie more tame than the first. And they wouldn't do that, imo, because that would be succumbing to the MPAA.

Really? Even on a mere $20 million production budget, they couldn't break even with sales just outside the USA? It wasn't exactly a Titanic ($600 million?). There are about 800 million people in Europe, compared to the USA's 300 million, with values far more liberal than the Americans. The entertainment industry definitely needs to restructure itself in the global era to reach out to these people without depending on the American market or institutions like the MPAA so much.

The would have to find non-American distributors, etc. willing to basically sacrifice the U.S. market. I'm not saying this is impossible anymore, but still highly improbable. It would be cool though, if they did that, because it would be the ultimate fuck you to the MPAA. Who knows? Things might change. A couple years ago, there was no hardcore (penetration) in mass market U.S. porn mags such as Penthouse and Swank. Within the last year or two, this has changed, and due to no change in laws that I know of.

I guess that'll depend on how much support the production company is willing to put their support behind M&T, were they to take up the cause. As of yet, I don't think they're willing to gamble too much in the way of time and resources on such a cause based on principle or long-term prospects.

Probably due to competition from all the free hardcore porn images getting passed around the Internet these days.
