i have read in some threads that the episode with scott tenorman was a literary reference. to shakespeare i think. is this true, and if so, how?
are there other literary references in south park?

Hmmmm...I just thought that Matt & Trey were paying homage to the movie "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" <sp?>...ya know, for people who have seen the movie, there was a chili cookoff, and this one guy killed people & put them in his chili. There was also "Motel Hell," which starred Rory Calhoun (more famous now from The Simpsons "baby greyhounds/see my vest" episode) who ran a motel, chopping up the inhabitants and serving them in chili. Brilliant film. A must see.

Also sounds like a broadway musical called sweeny todd, where he ran a barbershop and his neighbor ran a beer garden downstairs. People would come because she cooked these great meat pies, then (the men) would go up for a shave. When they got up there, Sweeny would slice their throats and send them down to the bakeshop through a trapdoor, where his neighbor would make the bodies into the great pies. And the cycle repeats.
Ironically, they first did it to get rid of a body without the hassle of burying it, but then decided that since meat is so expensive, they would use the cheap substitute.
