Just wondering... Two things brings this post about 1) The recent Troll discussions 2) There are a lot of people on this NG with some very interesting nicknames.
Some *appear* to be obvious, but I was wondering if there are any stories *behind* people's nicks.
Does anyone here post under different ones here/ in different NG's ?
Any interesting stories behind your nick?

As for me, I don't use a nick name on this group because I use Netscape for both email and as a newsreader, and I don't feel like switching back and forth every time. But on IRC, ICQ, and AOL IM my nick is MissEllen (on AOL I'm Ms Ellen22). Why? Basically, I wanted a South Park female character's name, but I didn't want Wendy, Principal Victoria, Miss Crabtree, any of the moms' names, or Bebe. I thought of Miss Ellen the substitute teacher because I think she's cool, pretty, and cute, which kinda describes me! :) Only thing is that I'm not a teacher and not a lesbian.
Yeah, same reason I don't have a fancy nickname. Because this is my email too! But if I did it would probably have something to do with the Smashing Pumpkins! For everybody's pleasure, the complete history of my postings:
I was gonna start on alt.music.nirvana as DeadGuy, but because Kurt
Cobain is dead, some may have taken offense. So I became just 'Davester.'
This lasted a while, until I signed onto Dejanews. "Davester' was
already taken, so I became '[email].' Is stayed this
way for up until a month, when I got a standalone newsreader and became
'the_davester' as I am now.
Sometimes, because of Dejanews, I was also 'nirvanasongs,' this is part
of my email address. I think I even posted a fanfic under that name,
although I'm not sure now.
It's taken from the book 'The Chronicles Of Thomas Covenant, the Unbeliever' by Stephen Donaldson.
The main premise is He is a guy from 'our world' with leprosy who is 'taken' to The Land (A bit Middle Earth-ish, but he's a 20th century guy.) It turns out he is seen as the re-incarnation of a great hero from The Land's past but all the way through the books he has a crisis of identity and pretty much refuses to believe this is happening and it is all hallucination brought on by his disease.
Now.. All through the books (6 of them.. big buggers..) he is seperated from his wife and begins to work his way back to her. I won't tell the final outcome in case anyone reading this ever wants to read the books (DO SO. SUPERB reading!!) But as I was going through my own 'seperation' at the time of reading, and with my own 'refusal to believe' it was actually HAPPENING, I saw a lot of similarities between my predicament, (Which I brought on), and HIS, which was *also* self inflicted.
I really cannot stress enough how good the books are. Maybe you have to be a bit older than I *think* most people on this NG are, (Although *MOST* are also very mature for their ages and would prob. appreciate them, (Kyle/Ash/Gryex/ Yourself/loads of others...that was just OTTOFHead)).
I'd mention BitchMom, but she and I have HAD that discussion!! ; ' ) (and yes, okay, I'm older! I think!)
Anyway.. that's the long and dull story of who 'Covenant' is, (or at least where *he* came from!) My word, I must trust you guys!

Yep. I'm BitchMom here cause I was trying to find a nick that fit into the southpark theme and I thought of Kyle'sMom and the next thing I thought of was Kyle's mom is a bitch. And it mutated into BitchMom.
The story behind my other nick is that my hubby went by the nick The Raven for a while and I wanted to have something similar and since I like Silver (the color and the name) I went with SilverRaven.

Actually, all of this applies. If you find me on IRC I'll be under Arabel, which is my real name. Or my middle name, anyways, but I don't really use my first name for anything that isn't legally required. Same goes with ICQ -- Arabel. Make it easy for those that need to, to find me.
Then it comes to email and newsgroups. EMail from me will always be different -- I use phrases from songs, bumper stickers, caracter names, etc. Newsgroup posts from me will probably always be from Chewbacca. Which is a really long story but the short of it is that when I first moved in here I hung a bunch of star wars stuff up, and since Chewbacca was the biggest poster he got the best place (biggest wall) and some friends mistook it as me really loving Chewbacca, and they bought me some figurines and things. Then I changed it to my email name for a while and my news name because it was more appropriate than "the threat of denial" and because it also has the double entendre with the first South Park Halloween episode. And as per the age issue that was going around, I'm no kid, but I'll never tell my real age. Suffice it to say that when you add the digits together enough to result in a single digit, I'm 4, and that's what I try to act like when I can.
