Why waste your time while watching bad TV when the best shows are a click away you lazy, stupid f****?
Underrated, underappreciated, underwatched: These are just a few of the adjectives to characterize the best types of shows on television. Because dramas are usually more irritating than entertaining and sitcoms are usually crap with drawn-out jokes that weren�t funny the first time and follows the same formula as their predecessors, there is only one hope for 30 minute intelligent humor that will fit the short attention span of the usually viewing audience . I am talking about prime time cartoons. Though most are quite terrible (including their originators The Flintstones and The Jetsons), 5 have stood above the rest (and by rest, I also mean the rest of the schedule). They are The Simpsons, King of the Hill, South Park, Dr. Katz: Professional Therapist, and the bordering-on-cancellation Duckman. When the Tracey Ullman Show premiered in 1987, this family has been entertaining us in shorts for three years until the show ended. In 1989 they got their own half hour show which has become the longest running cartoon in history. I am talking about The Simpsons. Set in the town of Springfield, USA this show has become the ultimate satire on daily life for over 8 years and has ultimately become the funniest, more innovative show on television. With a new CD-ROM (Virtual Springfield), video collection and book the show has the potential and, hopefully, will last for another 8 years. Like The Simpsons, the show following it is also relies on the supporting characters to make the show. I am talking about King of the Hill, created by Beavis and Butt-head�s Mike Judge and The Simpsons� Greg Daniels. This show combines the classic humor found in The Simpsons and places it in Arlen, Texas and a family of normal Americans. Another program focusing on a town is the newest addition to this genre, South Park on Comedy Central. This show is about 4 young boys in a small mountain town in Colorado. Taking on such subjects as abuse, lifestyles, guns, and death as seen through the eyes of four innocent youths. This TV-MA rated show is also filled with the best low brow humor which is why it will survive while other shows whither and die a painful, degrading death. Watch life�s most interesting commentary unfold with South Park. Also on Comedy Central, is Dr. Katz: Professional Therapist:. A computer animated show about a psychiatrist and his many famous comedian patients. It also deals with his tribulations with his 23-year-old son, his receptionist and his life. Finally we come to USA�s Duckman, the only original show on that network. Unfortunately, this extremely intelligent, witty, comedy has been canceled by them and replaced with the thought-provoking shows like Saved By The Bell or one of the many clones or Wings. Duckman is great for not passing to the PC trend influencing so many of our normal shows today which may have led to another reason for its cancellation. Others of this genre include HBO�s Spawn, the twice canceled The Critic, and the aforementioned Beavis and Butt-head. This is a great genre that is hardly watched because we are plagued with the likes of Home Improvement and other ABC crap like a cancer growing on society. We can�t help but watch the other shows on TV which, are about as entertaining a fecal matter. Why don�t we watch it? I have no idea, maybe because they are the truest shows on TV despite the fact they are drawn. Maybe they do require a great deal of understanding. Or maybe Mr. and Mrs. American want to watch cheesy humor, bad acting and the same plot every episode instead of watching worthwhile TV which might become an oxymoron given time.
