Comedy Central: On the rampage

I'm know I'm slow with this but that's becau;se I can only get online at certain times. What does everyone think about Comedy Central's cesae and desist to the Hell Hole? Please give me your thoughts...

Fox did it to the simpsons sites...tons of them have been forced to be taken off the net due to copyright infringement just for SOUNDS.

True about never ridding the world completely, but when a big company goes after you, then surely you don't hold out for long...

I noticed Howard Stern is doing the same thing to his fan based web sites now.It kinda sucks,cuz in every instance(SP,Simpsons,Stern)They're screwing over their international fan base...the same fan base that orders their crap from the official online stores(ok,ok.Stern hasn't licensed his show to the crap merchants...yet).Alot of people from Europe and Asia only know of SP and The Simpsons from the net,but order their plush toys and American video games just the same.*Sigh*...I take comfort in knowing that even faceless corporations can't limit what's posted on usenet,including Stern's show and South park eps. -------------------------------------------- Me gusta mi reggae Me gusta punk rock pero la cosa que me gusta m�s es panochinta

Apparently, the cororate dickheads insist that the ONLY point of view is THEIR point of view (where they tell you what they want you to know, and suppress the information they DON'T want you to know). Equally as apparent is that they don't realise that the power of the internet is to provide a source of entertainment/information that is NOT controlled by a bunch of suits in some isolated office tower.

Look at what was done to all the Trek sites. Paramount stomps on one fan site after another because they don't want anything distracting the surfers from their dogshit "Star Trek Continuum" thing. I would'nt be surprized to learn that all this insistence on having information coming from one corporate, rigidly-controlled source is part of the reason why the Trek francise is diving into the shitter nowadays.

Unless money is being made at the "unauthorised" sites, then the suits can shove it up their puckered, collective asses. If anything, they ought to PAY sites like Mr. Hat's for all the free publicity they're getting. When given a choice, I prefer Mr. Hat's over the "official" Comedy Central SP site anyway. What pisses me so is that the suits want to take away my right to a choice.

Howard Stern was, is and always will be a self-obsessed scumbag.

Big deal. 90% of this newsgroup has seen the movie and every episode, myself included. Only one I have yet to see is the original SoX with Frosty. I've also seen all of Matt & Trey's other movies.

It's nice that you can praise South Park after seeing all the episodes, but just how much of Howard have you ever listened to? Did you ever actually sit down and listen to the show for more than five minutes, or do you just let other people tell you that he's bad?

I like to say that Titanic sucked, but I really shouldn't because I haven't been able to bring myself to watch it. I like to say Regis and Kathie Lee sucks, but I've never watched more than two minutes worth, so is my opinion of that show valid?

FWIW, I've always thought him to be a 2nd rate personality/entertainer, who likes to surround himself with other 2nd rate people who blow smoke up his porthole. IMHO, he's not very funny, nor is he informative.

PS: Yes, I have actually listened to him at some length. Almost daily for several weeks when I was consulting in Denville (NJ). That's when I formed my previously stated opinion of him.

Good point, but they haven't taken it THAT far, yet. So far, comedy central has only ordered the removing of episodes.

Whereas the redneck corporate execs at FOX are shutting down simpsons sites just for giving information. That makes me sick. Some People spend half their life maintaining a fan site to show their love for the show, and FOX just seems to think "Their making money from my site, oh no, we'd better shut them down"

A year ago, i wouldn't have known what Futurama was if there wasn't all the cool websites dedicated to it. And alot of people, especially in europe, would've only heard about SOuth Park From the web up until a while ago.

I haven't thought about it being a possible move to make the official sites the only ones, but i also agree. The official sites suck. Beef-cake and Thehellhole are both much better than the official sites.

In conclusion, FOX and CC would have to be idiots if if they wanted to continue this relentless rampage, cos if they did, they would be destroying their own shows.
