There is a movement afoot in Europe called Dogma 95 (nothing to do with the Kevin Smith flick) where only handhelds are used, with natural lighting, no FX, and no music, unless it happens to be playing on a radio in the scene.

I believe there have been 3 movies using the Dogma 95 format to come out in the last year or so... a sort of derisive sneer at the big-budget Hollywood film by European filmmakers. Unfortunately, one of those three will probably never be seen in the states because it contains some degree of pornography.

I take this to mean the following:

1. No music in the opening or closing credits 2. No film score and no songs sung by the characters 3. No music as part of any action in the script (no music coming from a car or home stereo, no marching bands, nobody playing instruments or humming, nada)

That is indeed a challenge.
