Oh my God, they've killed the name of our school

Parents and governors at South Park infants school in Reigate, Surrey, have voted to rename their school to distance it from any comparison to its foul-mouthed TV cartoon show namesake.

Around 60% of parents voted to ditch the 60-year-old name for the Orchards.

A full-length animated feature film of the series opened in cinemas this weekend.

The film, which has a certificate 15, contains 399 swear words, 128 crude gestures and 221 violent scenes and centres around four children who live in South Park, Colorado.

First broadcast on Channel 4 in July, 1998, the US show has become cult viewing with children and adults, though makers Trey Parker and Matt Stone insist it should not be seen by children.

School governor, Alan Mayer, said that the cartoon's infamy had played a part in the renaming. "It was in the back of our minds, but it was not the major consideration," he added.

Amanda Morris, 30, whose three-year-old son attends the school, said: "I think it's all very silly. What are they going to do if a rude film called The Orchards comes out - change the name again?"
