I looked at my channel guide and the synopsis read:
A meteor shower hits the sleepy town of South Park.

Obviously, the TV Guide didn't want viewers to know that this episode doesn't feature Stan, Kyle, or Kenny, and thus uses a minor plot point to cover up the crap that was tonight's episode.
I agree completely. I'm a huge fan of the show and movie but that episode tonight was complete and utter crap. I love cartman but Shelley annoys me to no end and the script was definitely lacking. And how do you simply ignore every character on the show except for 4 or so? Disappointment's not even the word for it.

Well well, if it isn't D.G. Porter. I like this ng better than affz, it isn't as evil. ;)
I guess I'll weigh in with my thoughts. I thought last night's episode was really interesting. I like how Matt & Trey don't just stick with the same formulas, they always try to mix things up.
The Wild Wild West stuff was great, I knew they were going to rip on them in SP after seeing the Leno interview and then reading the Yahoo! chat. And me and my brother cheered in the beginning when we saw that Cartman's little dolls were back! Woo-hoo!
We were wondering how Kenny was gonna die. My brother figured he would just show up and die in some stupid way. But obviously they had this whole script written out with just Cartman & Shelly, and they realized it would be dumb to just work Kenny into it just so he could die. Plus there's already precedent for Kenny not to die in an episode, so what the hell? (Besides, you could always argue that for all we know, Kenny DID die, just not on screen. Ponder THAT!)
I applaud Matt & Trey for always trying to keep the show fresh with different ideas and making each episode different. It wasn't the funniest ep, but it had its moments... I mean my God, a CAT ORGY?? Did you see how they spread the catnip out on the floor into lines and snorted it up like cocaine?? And I really liked how clever Cartman was in this episode... now we know that Cartman really can fend for himself without the other guys to help him.
Yes, you're right. Initially, I was disappointed in this episode, and I even posted a message saying that it was a bad episode. However, on seeing it again, I realized that it's not too bad after all. The nature documentary and the cat's reaction to it was a highlight.
OTOH, when a character as funny as Cartman is the center of the episode, I would expect better. Overall, I'd say it was a funny, but below-average episode.
Judging by the promo ads, I think the next episode features Stan only, without Kyle, Kenny or Cartman. Perhaps there is a 4-episode pattern of giving each main character an entire episode of their own. I look forward to seeing an episode that focuses on Kenny (who was already fleshed out a bit more than usual in the Rainforest episode).
The opening scene was great. The whole "Artemis Clyde Frog" bit had me laughing from the start, It was reminiscent of Cartman's tea party which was one of my favorite scenes of all time.
Unfortunately, it was all downhill from there. This may have been the worst episode yet.

No way dude. Three more things about this ep that rocked: 4) Someone stood up to that bitch Shelley (I have an older sister too, so I know what bitches they are). 5) Ragging on that piece-o-crap Wild Wild Waste. 6) Cartman's mom being a total lush -- oh wait, I mentioned that already.
Dude, Shelley doesn't even have any pubes yet (probably), and that 22-year old loser is trying to pop her! Oy!
I KNOW HOW THAT IS WITH SHELLY!! MY SIS IS A BIG FAT BITCH TOO!!! I DESPISE HER VERY EXSISTENSE!!! YES! THIS SOUTH PARK EP SHOW HOW MUCH BIG AND LITTLE SISTERS STINK!!!!!
You do realize that, because of your obscenely long .sig, each of your one-line messages is as long as oh, a short essay? No one needs to see your bookmark file, or whatever the fuck that is, every time you post.
When you grow up a little, you'll lose that whole "Older sisters suck" shtick.
You didn't like it, so it must be a 'piece-o-crap' right? Your opinion means less and less with each post.
Yeah, that was hysterical. Not.
Oy is right. I thought I'd give you a second chance, but I see you're just as immature when talking about the show as you are when insulting other newsgroup subscribers.
Back you go. Say hi to Pumpkin.

Exactly... and the same applies to younger sisters, as well... mine made my life a living hell when I was a kid and continues to do so as an adult... so much so that I have as little to do with her as possible.
Hear, hear. Bout time too, after (he reaches for his episode list...) #105.

First off, I doubt TV Guide gives a flying fuck about South Park and promoting it. TV Guide is owned by the News Corporation, which owns Fox, home of the prime time cartoon jamboroo. So they pretty much hate South Park to begin with.
Second, it disturbs me that people wrote this episode off just because it didn't feature all four boys in an all-too-familiar plot- the whole town goes to shit and they save the day. And Kenny dies somewhere along the way. It goes to show how many South Park fans are 12-year-old boys or adults with the mental capacity of 12-year-old boys. Matt and Trey are watching successful TV shows and taking notes. A show has to stay fresh. You can only run the same episode plot for about two seasons. An episode featuring Cartman, Shelley, and Cartman's cat is a huge break from the show, and I for one hope this continues. New life needs to be injected into the stale characters. New alliances, such as one between Cartman and Shelley, should be formed. The operative word here is "new." Matt and Trey need to keep rolling out new ideas to make the show succeed. I hope the ratings dip has made them recognize this.
I will concede that the episode never matched the hilarity of its opening scene, Cartman's Wild Wild West romp. But it remained funny throughout, and for once I was actually interested in what was going to happen next. B+
Just because something is "new" (this episode didn't do anything new), doesn't mean it rocks.
As I said in another post, the show NEEDS all four kids, for me atleast, and this episode proved to me that it does need all of the kids. Was the episode funny? Yeah, but it was also boring.
But they still carried adverts for South Park, I noticed. In the Eastern edition, for week ending Friday, July 18, it was Comedy Central's turn for an advert a day, and the SP one trailed a new series: "Stan's back. Cartman's back. Kenny's back. And Kyle's got back problems." Probably #301. I didn't see it, though, the hotel didn't carry Comedy Central. :(

I agree. They also need to ditch that shit about Kenny dying each time. It was funny, but has now had its day. They should start a new series from scratch, and run it more like Coronation Street or Eastenders or such like, where each episode influences the next one. For instance, in light of this alliance between Cartman and Shelley, future episodes will have to bear this in mind.
The characters should also grow up, and go through the grades at school. Not remain eight-year-old third-graders in perpetuity.

I thought the show kicked ass!!! Although the "cat in heat" joke was overdone and pointles. It wasnt funny at all. But I thought cartmans wild wild west suit was funny. I dont give a shitabout what anyone else thinks..SOUTH PARK KICKS ASS!!!! EVERY SINGLE SHOW!!!!!!!!!
They've been in the third grade, and 8 years old, for 2 years so far (Longer if you count the two "pilot" films). Besides, if we see a character alive who was clearly killed in the previous episode, you _know_ the creators are not two concerned about logic or contunuity.
Having the characters age might be unwise from a purely marketing point of view. If the characters became teenagers, reruns of episodes from when they were in third grade would look "old" and it might be jarring to see them age back and forth, as new episodes alternate with reruns.
Also, South Park merchandise, such as T shirts, mugs and posters, would become out of date quickly.
If Lisa Simpson can remain 8 years old for 10 years, so can Cartman, Kenny, Kyle and Stan.
Huh? That was a GREAT ep, conmpared to what they've been playing until now this season.
