TV Ratings For Tunes

Just another case of dumb laws made by the FCC. Those TV ratings icons have been nothing more than a joke to me ever since I first heard about them. Whether it's Looney Tunes, King of The Hill, The Simpsons, or South Park, the ratings are still going to be stupid. Take for instance the rating of TV-MA, for example.

Most of South Park's episodes are rated TV-MA. I never understood what that rating meant. Spawn, HBO's animated series, is also rated TV-MA. Spawn shows acts of violence, profanity (including the seven deadly words), and naked ladies with no editing, whereas South Park constantly bleeps out its profanity. How could the same rating be used for two entirely different shows?

Looney Tunes, The Simpsons, and King Of The Hill have very much the same type of humor, but the Simpsons and KOTH are a little more risque. Bombs, cross-dressing characters, faces being blown off, oh wait, that WAS Looney Tunes. And yet, The Simpsons and KOTH are rated TV-PG, whatever that means, and Looney Tunes are rated TV-Y. Strange country we're in.

What's the point of ratings in the first place? A) To help out the viewers, B) to limit the programmers, or C) to confuse the hell out of everybody. If you chose C), the bell tolls for thee.

Ah, yes but we must remember that Looney Tunes (if they are the same ones I am thinking about) were written in a time when people did not worry about what was on tv and took responsibility for their kids. When their kids acted out something on TV that was not acceptable, they did not blame the TV. They blamed themselves for not having the judgement to tell them that that was wrong. Just my two cents worth. SP ROX!!!!!

i wouldn't call simpsons risque (maybe a couple episodes...) but i don't realy think that you can say wb has the same kind of humor...it's more 'slapstick' oriented while koth and simpsons is more of an anmimated situation comedy...

stranger yet...don't know if you watch any of nickelodeons toons, but ren and stimpy and rocko's modern life have *very* similar comedy styles, and rocko is tv-y while r&s is rated tv-y7 (may not be suitable for children under 7)

to reduce the need for parents to be involved in the lives of their kids...as if many of them aren't involved enough now
