South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut

MPAA Rating: R Distributor: Paramount/Warner Bros. Director/Actors: Directed by South Park creator Trey Parker. Written by Parker and cocreator Matt Stone. Assorted voices by Parker and Stone. Isaac Hayes provides the voice of Chef. Reviewed By: Steven Isaac

WEB EDITORS NOTE: The foul content of South Park far exceeds even what most secular critics would deem appropriate. Offensive subjects are raised with alarming frequency. Naturally, Plugged In must address these serious lapses in social responsibility. Parental caution is urged even in the reading of this review. If you are a teenager or a younger child, please let your parents read this review before you proceed.

Premise: Third-graders Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Kenny sneak in to see an R-rated movie starring a Canadian comedy duo. At that film they are introduced to every possible swear word in the English language. And a few not in the English language. Mimicking what they hear, they swear at each other, at their parents and at their teachers. Of course their mothers become outraged by this abusive language and form a protest group called M.A.C. (Mothers Against Canadians). The result is a ground swell of outrage against Canada for generating filthy entertainment. One thing leads to another and the U.S. and Canada go to war. The comedy duo responsible is scheduled for public electrocution. Meanwhile, Saddam Hussein (a cut-out photograph is used instead of typical South Park-style animation) has died and gone to hell. He and Satan strike up a heated, at times sickeningly intimate homosexual relationship. Kenny also goes to hell after he is brutally killed. He discovers a plot hatched by Satan and Saddam to take over the world after the U.S. military executes the two Canadians.

Positive Elements: None.

Spiritual Content: Satan is referred to as God and profane insults are thrown at God. A third-grade boy referred to as Mole rails against God in numerous hate-filled diatribes. All incidents are too vile to describe. Every insult imaginable is tossed skyward, intertwined with the most vulgar obscenities. When Kenny flies up to heaven he is greeted at the gates by realistically drawn nude angels. During his first ascent (before he is rejected and sent down to hell), he sees a sign that indicates that heavens total population amounts to just over 1,500 people. In the end, Satan who is portrayed as a deeply sensitive and misunderstood loner wins and restores peace and tranquility to the earth.

Sexual Content: A realistic-looking penis-shaped sex toy is shown twice. It is not animated. Saddam begs Satan to let him use it. A giant pink mound which refers to itself as a clitoris instructs one of the boys how to end the war and win the girl. In fact, a recurring theme in the film is a frantic search for the clitoris the discovery of which promises the only sure way to make a woman fall in love. The boys watch pornographic movies on the Internet. South Park vomits up a bottomless cesspool of sexual innuendo and insults.

Violent Content: Kennys blood-splattered death is gory beyond description. The war fought between the U.S. and Canada features explosions, decapitations and many brutal depictions of violence and death. In this film, the animation does little to minimize the impact.

Crude or Profane Language: Literally hundreds of f-words and s-words ravage the dialogue. The f-word is used repeatedly to describe explicit sexual acts such as sodomy, bestiality, incest and other forms of abuse. Friends, parents, teachers and God are all addressed with such vulgar insults as f---ing b--ch. Very few words are spoken in this film that are not accompanied by a profanity of some type.

Homosexual Content: Big Gay Al makes an appearance as emcee for a U.S.O. function. He sings a song that celebrates being gay. The gist of the lyrics is that the only thing Al has to be happy about in life is his gayness. Satan and Saddams trysts have already been mentioned.

Other Negative Elements: Where to begin? One thing worth noting here is the abundance of racial slurs and insults. Jews and blacks are singled out.

Summary: Matt Stone and Trey Parker set out to intentionally make this South Park movie the vilest film ever. They deliberately selected the most offensive jokes, story lines and images they could find. Three times the MPAA slapped them with an NC-17 rating before granting an R following minor edits. The MPAA should have stuck to its guns and insisted on the NC-17. Stone boastfully told Entertainment Weekly, "Were spending tons of Paramounts money to do a big middle finger to the MPAA. Were trying to offend the MPAA. This film is really nothing more than getting our own satisfaction in knowing that the MPAA has to sit and watch this." That said, Stone and Parker (along with the entertainment companies that backed them: Paramount, Time/Warner and Comedy Central) should be shamed for producing such a vulgar product. But that shame falls doubly on the head and every single person who pays money to wallow in it.

sorry, but I did. Everthing had a good point to it. Watch it again closely. Satan is gay, so homo's are evil. Saddam is sadisticly evil, therefore equally gay. I loved the Jar Jar hit. It just pointed out how insulting he was, a gay negro, cmon...... Funny shit this movie was. Now go kcuf your uncle. Jeez, it's unfortunate that the subtleties of much of the humor in South Park (Simpsons, Beavis & Butthead, etc.) goes right over the head of not only those folks it's MEANT to offend but also right past the rest of the populace.

BLU is released here on July 23, with me in the front row of the first screening, so no doubt I'll form my own opinion based on the film itself. The BBC (Britain's PBS broadcaster) and commercial TV sometimes produce drama series that run for a couple of hours; that could easily have been cut down to 90 or 60 minutes, but have been padded out with music, slow pacing or distracting and superfluous sub-plots just to pad it out. Even if BLU has received similar treatment, overall the glowing reviews it has received from heavyweights such as Time and Newsweek, the NY Times and the Boston Globe and Boston Herald make such sins forgivable. Watch out for my report to rec.arts.movies.reviews near the end of the month.

Mole was the best character in the movie! I think Mole was a little too tame with his anti-Christianity rhetoric, I wouldn't mind another hundred lines or two of gOD cursing. I was half expecting Jesus to join in on the massacre of Canadians and finally get killed by Saddam Hussein or something when I saw him joining the army. Oh well. They should have God show up and have passionate gay sex with Satan or Hussein at some point in the movie after. It might be even more entertaining to have Allah show up and finally have them both exposed as evil immature kids of another higher more omnipotent being. Maybe have them spanked or disciplined afterwards for creating such a mess on earth or something.

And once again, you take a defensive stance on the religious topic......I wasn't belittling you, I was making a valid point that you are singling out one form of offensive humor over other equally offensive humor....and when it comes to South Park, you just have to take it all in and savor it......and you just took the Lawd's name in vein there, Toni!!! hehehehe.

I can't believe that having an opinion different from others suddenly turns me into an MPAA member. You don't see me make any judgements on you do I?

AND once again you fail to see what I'm getting at. Like I said before, I am not offended by all Catholic/Christian jokes in SP, otherwise I probably wouldn't even be watching it in the first place, right? If I had a stick up my ass I would probably be spouting Christian fundementalist shit, but DO I DO THAT???????? No. I would certainly be offended by episodes such as the original Spirit of Xmas, Damien, The Mexican Staring Frog, and Spontaneous Combustion. I would most definitely be pissed off at the fact that Jesus is a talk show host. But am I offended? No way! What I just mentioned are among my favorite episodes, as a matter of fact.

It's just that to me- as in, my opinion -I didn't like the way it was done in the movie. I never said that religion should singled out as not be made fun of. I was just referring to that *one* scene. I didn't care too much for that one particular scene. Other people like yourself don't think so and liked it a lot. That's fine-that's their opinion. I respect that and have no problem with that. Now, I ask that you drop this issue. Thank you.

Again, all defensive.....did I ever say you were a bad person? No. I was just pointing out that you're getting mad at one type of offensive humor over other types of offensiveness.....it's exactly what the MPAA does.

No I don't. You were offended by the mole, and you think they shouldn't have had anti-god dialog......that's your point.

I just wonder how often FotF's reviewer laughed despite himself while watching it.

As a Catholic *and* a SP fan I think FotF are blowing bubbles out of their ass, as Eric would say. I was a little taken aback at first with the appearance of Jesus as a character, but I soon got over that.

The Independent on Sunday newspaper ((c) Newspaper Publishing plc, March 29, 1998) put it like this, and I quote:

Should the shit suddenly hit the fan, Parker and Stone have already prepared their defence, judging by one episode [#106, Death] in which the parents of South Park launch a kamikaze protest against Terrance and Philip, a fart-fixated animated-show-within-the-show (the equivalent of Itchy and Scratchy in The Simpsons); an exasparated Stan, in a sudden burst of cogency, notes, 'If parents would spend less time worrying about what their kids watch on TV and more time worrying about what's going on in their kids' lives, this world would be a better place.'

While I'm on my soapbox about right-wing religious zealots, may I just say that hate is *not* a family value; nor a Christian one. Some of these homophobic evangalists should re-read Matthew 22:34-40:

When the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, they came together, and one of them, a teacher of the Law, tried to trap him with a question. "Teacher," he asked, "which is the greatest commandment in the Law? Jesus answered, "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.' This is the greatest and most important commandment. The second most important commandmant is like it: 'Love your neighbour as you love yourself.' The whole Law of Moses and the teachings of the prophets depend on these two commandments."

Obviously, the writer of the FotF review disagrees with the teachings of Jesus.

Dave Webb - I don't think that you should call yourself an intelligent, reasonable or logical person. Are we to believe, and I think that we are, that you are a full grown adult that believes that a) there is a physical place called Heaven, b) that there is a physical supreme being that people cold label as God, and c) that if the said being in (b) existed, that the being would have human personifications such as smiling? Hey LJ, you dumb f**k, I never claimed to be a genius. I just thought this ( I ) was funny cuz I'd never seen it before - well, actually, I have seen plenty of ( I ) on the net and plenty of ( I ) in real life but not like this: ( I ). If you don't like it, you can kiss my big bare ( I ) and then stick it up your ( I ), you big ( I )-hole.

LJ MoonDave Webb

Wow, it is always great when another genius in our presence shows his softer side, like his asscheeks. Yes, L J Moon is my real name. Oh, I am sure that you have intelligence far beyond my humble means, I am no genius for I still have not figured out how a man believes a mythological creature that was invented by Man to control our Society and keep his borthers away from his wife, his belongings, and not to kill him could be the metaphysical representation of all good. You are the genius for that.

Sir, I cannot prove that there is no God just as you cannot prove that there is a God. Does that make either of this argument more valid, no it does not. As I am sure that you are aware of, it is a matter of faith. Faith in the fact that I could die by falling out an airplane (without a parachute) I can have because I can logically think of all steps that may kill me, yet I could still live, am I willing to take that chance. Logic tells me not to, just as logic tells me that if there is not a omnipresent, onmipotent and omniscient being that only has Goodly ideas and Goodly desires. The real irrational part of your understanding is he is the representation of all of these things and yet you write for him these words.

God says, "You didn't believe in me, and you had the choice. Sorry, you can't belong to my kingdom." And off to hell you go. Ha ha ha!

This is quite a dichotomy, don't you think? Here is a being of Goodness and yet this being would enjoy and revel in one of his creation's suffering. Well, you sold me, there buddy. That is quite logical, I can tell you really have thought this thing through. You are so much smarter than me, could you pontificate upon your beliefs some more, you sure are impressive, you and that huge cranium. I mean, how do you do it, how do you belittle your thoughts enough to converse with us mere mortals? You, sir, are my hero.

Thank you for just answering my e-mail, your true brilliance has shown once again.

In any case, if you've picked up any amount of logic or reasoning in your um studies, it clearly does not show here. Firstly, non-disproof of something can in no way be equated with proof of same (especially when, as in this case, we're dealing with an essentially non-falsifiable claim).

[copy from above, for convenience orsomething]

Of course, if we're accepting "You can't prove that it's not the case" as being equivalent to "It is proven that it is the case", you've pretty much got to subscribe to EVERY SINGLE religion to avoid some variety of damnation. I mean, really, wouldn't you be TERRIBLY embarrased if say Allah condemned you to...well, whatever he condemns you to, uh, eternal felching or whatever? Further, consider the possibility that the /salvator/ (is that a word in English? I know it works in Latin...) that only "saves" the non-religious, or perhaps only those who...I dunno, eat their toenail clippings. Anything, no matter how banal, must be considered as a possible requirement for salvation, if one is accepting non-disproof of a claim as proof of that claim.

Oh fuck, I'm trying to talk to a hardcore religionist as if it were some sort of rational entity. Shit, that's _never_ a good thing to do.

Oh, you've written books? Give the titles, fucker. This is the internet. Lying (or misrepresenting the truth) is a _remarkably_ dumb thing to do, considering how much information we've got at our fingertips.

Suck my balls, pigfucker. Oh, and buy some new logic boards next time you're in the wetware section at Fry's, because the ones you've got are obviously failing.

Well, that doesn't exactly matter, does it? Since I neither stated this to be true nor do I believe it, furthermore I don't actually believe in a physical presence as Heaven, so I won't "get to" it. I am not sure a college education will get you anything of significant value except a debt. What drew this conclusion and what, exactly, is your point? I believe my hope would be is that if kids are in college and are getting an education, then they have the tools for Logic and figure out that religion is made up and God was created by men who did not want other men to have sex with his wife, steal his land, and didn't want his kids back-talking him, so he created the Pentateuch and said not only if you break these laws now will you punished on this planet but you will also perish and suffer in an afterlife, so DON'T TOUCH MY STUFF!!! They ran with it from there and having been frightening children ever since.

So, you are right - but your college education will hopefully teach that this place doesn't even exist.

Same reason why anyone who has nothing to offer does whatever he or she can to *distract* you from the deficiencies that he or she is already aware of. For example, a used car salesman will talk loudly to make you not notice a car's problems. Nixon dolled up his self-incriminating tape transcripts in luscious leather bindings. Ugly women often use too much perfume. People who post the most worthless drivel often have huge Sig files. And so on. The more fluff is included, the less actual substance usually lies within.

It's really a warning. They think they're announcing "I'm incredibly cool and my post is very important," but they're actually saying "I'm someone you should killfile now -- unless maybe you're even more boring than I am."

Dude, get rid of that crap. It is an extreme waste of bandwith, and it is completely useless. How many other people in this group attach THAT much HTML or, for the love of god, MIDI to their posts?

I shouldn't have to endure loading your HTML in the usenet. Save that for your web page. It is just common courtesy. I would wager that if you took a poll of people in this NG, 99% of them would tell you to get rid of that crap.

Again, it is just common courtesy.

DaveMichael Pitts

I've NEVER seen anything like that until WebTV came on the scene.

Count me in. It's either or a complete lack of understanding, or flat out rudeness.

Here's a snippet from the "Posting Rules" section of the official Usenet FAQ (http://www.faqs.org/usenet/):

"Long signatures are definitely frowned upon. DO NOT include drawings, pictures, maps, or other graphics in your signature -- it is not the appropriate place for such material and is viewed as rude by other readers."

Here's a brilliantly sarcastic Q&A that gets the point across pretty nicely:

Q: Dear Miss Postnews: How long should my signature be? -- verbose@noisy

A: Dear Verbose: Please try and make your signature as long as you can. It's much more important than your article, of course, so try to have more lines of signature than actual text.

Try to include a large graphic made of ASCII characters, plus lots of cute quotes and slogans. People will never tire of reading these pearls of wisdom again and again, and you will soon become personally associated with the joy each reader feels at seeing yet another delightful repeat of your signature.

Be sure as well to include a complete map of Usenet with each signature, to show how anybody can get mail to you from any site in the world. Be sure to include Internet gateways as well. Also tell people on your own site how to mail to you. Give independent addresses for Internet, UUCP, and BITNET, even if they're all the same.

Aside from your reply address, include your full name, company and organization. It's just common courtesy -- after all, in some newsreaders people have to type an *entire* keystroke to go back to the top of your article to see this information in the header.

By all means include your phone number and street address in every single article. People are always responding to Usenet articles with phone calls and letters. It would be silly to go to the extra trouble of including this information only in articles that need a response by conventional channels!

And when you build a WebTV sig file, you must be sure to throw in everthing they offer. People love to discover what the time and temperature of your hometown, and they really enjoy the download time and the rewards of listening to your favorite song each and every time they load one of your posts.

If you follow these guidelines, you will soon be able to consider yourself a well respected Usenet subscriber.

When webtv first came online, I noticed that every single post was moronic, childish and amazingly ignorant. After seeing about 500 such posts (sometimes a single idiot would post the same contentless garbage several dozen times) I killfiled the entire lot. If one actually has something worthwhile to post then I'll probably see it in a followup and I can put an exception in my killfile. So far there has only been one.

USENET has too much noise to make wading through webtv garbage worth it. I have also killfiled the entire domains for any site that gives out throwaway accounts such as yahoo, dejanews, hotmail, etc. Those sites are nothing but spammers' paradises.

If you killfile just a few domains and eliminate all posts crossposted to more than three newsgroups, you'd be amazed how much the s/n improves.

P.S. I still have AOL entirely killfiled with only two exceptions. I occasionally turn off all filtering to see what I'm missing. Not a damn thing.

I can. The Internet IQ went down at least 20 points when AOL got on, and it lost another 10 points, at least, when WebTV started up. I almost immediately added author: aol.com to my kill filters when AOL got on, and when WebTV got on I changed that kill filter to read author: (aol.com or webtv) .

Alright, in places _other_ than the U.S., people have to pay for local phone calls (yeah, it sucks). So when they're online, they're paying for every second. Most of these people, if they read USENET, download _all_ the articles and then read offline, where they don't have to pay. Because of your extra-long .sig, each of your one-line posts takes an inordinate amount of time to download. This is a very rude thing for you to do.

*****The Complaint Process*****

Please remember, if you suspect a crime is being committed, you need to report it to your local police authorities, as WebTV can only require its users to conform to the Terms of Service.

A great deal of e-mail that is reported to us is in fact forged. To verify that the user you are lodging a complaint against is a WebTV user, please look at the following criteria to discern whether or not it is a valid WebTV address:

~ Logon will never be more than 15 or less than 3 characters.

~ Logon will never be from the domain 'webtv.com', but will always originate from 'webtv.net'.

If you are complaining about a non-WebTV user, please send the complaint to the domain from which the message in question originated. To do this you will want to look closely at the given header information. In most cases of forgery the correct postmaster domain can usually be found in the 'Message-Id' or 'Reply-To' fields.

Could I suggest forwarding these posts to [email] Not only does usenet have rules against this sort of thing, webTV does also. If some of you took the time to actually look at some of the options on your home page, there's one that's called 'using webTV'. This includes a list of rules that you agreed to when you signed up for the service. Why do some assholes have to cause problems for everybody?

Go ahead then! foreward your ass off for all I care! I would just like to say I'm sorry for all the stupid shit webtvers do. Adding all that senseless garbage at the end of their post is just childish. The only reason I'm on webtv is because I like surfing the web on my bigscreen while sitting in my lazyboy. I dont need to download or print anything off the web, just check out NG's and sports scores. That's a start.

I'm Catholic, but I don't believe in taking the Bible word-for-word. However, many ancient civilizations (Babylonians, Egyptians, Jews/Christians, Mesoamericans) have a "great flood" story, and they're all pretty similar. The premise of an enormous flood a few thousand years ago may be true.

P.S.- How do we know the Big Cheese isn't laughing his ass off at all of this? :)

Oh I think we know it because we are somewhat intelligent logical beings. Using that logic, we can figure out for ourselves that God was created by Man to control Society. Set down Laws.

That is how we know, sir.

Sure. Every ethnic group believes in a God that looks like them.

Man has created God in his own image.

It's interesting that the truth is the exact opposite of what the Bible would have us believe.

And as for that whole "great flood" thing, simple physics tells us that 40 days and nights is nowhere near enough time to cover the planet, and literally thousands of new animal species have evolved since that time that could not possibly have on the ark in the first place. Ordinarily, I consider the Bible a series of fables, on a par with the Brothers Grimm and Aesop, that were written to teach moral lessons, but the Noah's Ark fable is so riddled with logic holes that it simply cannot be accepted at face value.

Now don't get me started on that whole "Lot's wife/pillar of salt" thing or the fact that somehow a whale's gastric acid wasn't strong enough to digest Jonah.

I couldn't have said it better myself, well maybe I could have but...just kidding. Agreed. Fables and the Pentateuch laid down some laws and a very little picture of history.

LJ says as he picks up The Trial by Franz Kafka and excalims, "Everyone, all of the answers are in this book. All of the secrets on how to live forever in an afterlife of political correctness, happiness and no original thought. It is in here. This man is what God is. He created us and has shown us the light. Thank you Mr. Kafka. Why don't you believe me, because your parents and society tell you differently. I am the new Jesus, the king of the meek. Follow me or you shall all perish in Hell."

Dave wrote:

It is entirely possible that God exists and that he had nothing to do with the writing of the Bible. It may be that the authors of the Bible were deluded or even just making it all up. It is also entirely possible that the entire Bible was once the word of God and that it was corrupted by people over the centuries for their own purposes. It is not easy to believe that God would lie, but it is not too hard to imagine that people would lie.

Given all of that, it is entirely reasonable to believe in God and still not accept every word in the Bible as literal truth.

We are the liars, the dreamers, the men who could not reach any sign of Virtue and therefore created him in our image and give him human personifications.

But let us use Your Logic for second, One couldn't be a True Believer in God if they didn't believe ALL that He has written in the bible, correct? My question to you is, what did He Write? Did He Write Psalm 127 or 129? Did He Write Leviticus? See, if you do any study of a little thing we like to call History, then you would know that it was men who wrote the bible and felt that God spoke through them. Well, everything that I am writing right now, (by your logic) must be from God, because I feel a spirit coming through in this writing.

It is a spirit of Logic. Maybe you'll understand in a few years of collegiate education or maybe having a library card, you know that they are free. You could just walk right in and ask for one. Bu the people that created your Lord want to keep you ignorant, so go and get permission.

Waitasecond, so um say conclusive archaelogical evidence turned up that the Egyptians /never/ kept jewish slaves, then you'd ignore that evidence in favour of "God's History", which states that they did? Note that I'm not saying that it's likely such evidence would ever turn up (proving a negative is devilishly hard), but if it did, you'd ignore it? What if, for example, in the Old Testament God ordered a group to construct a circular cauldron exactly three units (cubits? One of those Biblical units...) in circumference and two units across, and further, what if this group is recorded to have constructed said cauldron? I mean, this may sound a bit /silly/, but that never could have happened, given that something with a one unit radius and three unit circumference would be a hexagon (I think), not a circle. Is it wisdom to ignore measurable reality in favour of "God's Math"? Basically, is it more "wise" to say that pi is exactly three (despite the fact that it is measurably not so) than it is to say that pi is about 22/7, less a bit?

Ben Allen, [email]

I can't understand why most ppl get so offended when someone believes in God, I have as much right as everyone else to state my beliefs. Anyhow, there is a thing called faith, which is what I live by, whether their is evidence of Noah's ark or anything else that has to do with the bible OR not, it doesn't matter-God would not lie-He can't-He's perfect. And I am thankful that I have faith and trust in the Lord..why would I want to spend my whole life not believing He is real, believing that I work, face challenges, raise children and get an education, etc, when all I'm gonna receive is a pretty coffin and a tombstone with my name on it? That's radiculist, then what's the point of living? What was the bible made for then? There is a reason it exist, and it's not just a book full of only rules and consequences, it's guidance, hope, love, and history as well. I think this post is long enough, and it has nothing to do with south park, it's amazing what a cartoon can provoke............

Here here! In my case, I believe in God and Jesus in the sense that I follow their basic teachings such as to "love thy neighbor", "do unto others as you would have done unto you", and the stuff that's written on the 10 Commmandments. I mean, whether or not they were really written by the "finger of God", what's wrong with things such as "don't steal", "don't lie", "respect your parents" etc......aren't those things most of us believe in and follow anyways?

I may not believe that Jonah ended up inside a whale's belly and stuff but I believe in the basic things God has to offer- things such as love, respect for oneself and others, etc. I don't take the Bible literally and it's not meant to be taken literally, as many Bible thumpers do. I listen to the messages within that book. However, I do believe that there is a heaven, and what's wrong with that? What's wrong with having faith, believing that there's a better place besides earth? Atheists may consider it misguided or stupid that I believe in such a thing. That's your belief, and I respect other people's beliefs/opinions. It would be nice if mine, and other religious people like me (polite, nice ones who are not Bible Thumpers who try to force their beliefs on other people), were respected in return. Thanks.

"Faith" really does mean different things depending on what one is having faith in. If one has faith that something is a certain way, although there is no evidence that things are in fact that way, well, that's one thing. However, it one has faith in something /despite/ conclusive evidence to the contrary, well, that's another kettle of fish altogether. The first sort of faith I have no problem with (well, no major problem), but the second is a very frightening thing. If one is convinced that, for example, pi equals exactly three, or naughty language corrupts children, or wives should be in all things submissive to their husbands, against the evidence provided by actual observation, one is merely deluding oneself. That way lies...well, all sorts of scary cults, from southern baptism to scientology.

Further, regarding your "well, what's the point without an afterlife" rant/ whine, um, well, it's _nice_ when things work out the way you want them to, but just because you /want/ something to work out a certain way (i.e., you'd prefer people have a chance for eternal life) does not necessarily mean that things will work out that way. For example, I would really like to be able to...fly, move objects telekinetically, or do that _cool_ long-distance chokehold thing Darth Vader does, but even though my desires are strong I can't. Penn, of the comedy-magic-etc. team Penn & Teller, used the phrase "ontological hedonism" (belief in whatever makes one happiest) to describe the viewpoint you expressed in your paragraphs above. Ontological hedonism is, on the face of it, garbage. Just because you /want/ an afterlife, or because you would be terribly depressed and think that everything was completely /pointless/ without an afterlife, doesn't mean that there's such a thing as an afterlife.

Oh?

Yeah, something.

As a tribute to God's infallible Word, I wrote the following hymn. Sing it in your choir next Sunday!

I TRADED IN MY BRAIN FOR A BIBLE

An inspirational Christian Hymn

by Eric Perlin

Oh, I traded in my brain for a Bible; The human brain is tainted with sin; So I traded in my brain for a Bible The day that I became born ag'in.

I traded in my brain for a Bible; The Good Lord took the brain out of my head And replaced it with His Word: the Holy Bible So now it is what I will use instead.

I traded in my brain for a Bible; The human brain is naturally bad; I thank the Lord that I now have the Bible In place of the brain that I once had.

I traded in my brain for a Bible; The Good Lord in His benevolence Blessed me with His everloving Bible; A much more useful tool than common sense.

I traded in my brain for a Bible Which I now keep upon my bedroom shelf Because I know that nothing but evil Can come when I think for myself.

I traded in my brain for a Bible; To do otherwise I'd have to be a fool; For I realize that logical thinking Is Satan's most powerful tool.

I traded in my brain for a Bible; To the Lord I dilligently prayed; He took my brain and replaced it with a Bible Which was the greatest deal I ever made.

I traded in my brain for a Bible; I avoided Hell's eternal flame When I traded in my brain for a Bible; I highly recommend you do the same.

You or her? How do you *know* that you were right and she was wrong? And what happens if I talk to her again and she tells me that *she* is right and *you* are wrong? Can I believe you? Can I believe her?

There is so much contradiction and variation in the Christian religion that it's impossible for anyone to say that theirs is the One True Faith. And that's not even taking into account the myriad of other religions in the world that claim that *they* are Right and Christianity is Wrong.

So you see what the problem is, here? And do you see why, when people come marching in carrying a Bible and professing to be relaying the One Truth that they are received with skepticism and ridicule?

I haven't needed to forgive the hurtful things that she said. I've made my own peace with the Higher Power and realize that she, and you, and everyone else in the world, are only human after all, and that NO ONE can know the Whole Truth. So what she said has no power over me. All we can do is try to find an understanding that we accept and can live with. I have done that - I don't need to change my Truth to concide with yours, or hers, or anybody else's.

I'm not asking anyone else to change their Truth to concide with mine. I resent it when others ask me to change mine to coincide with theirs.

You're not going to be able to change any minds here, I'm afraid. It would be much easier on you, and us, if you would just go away and let us enjoy our newsgroup in peace.

Yes, Tyra, I agree with you; and I sorry to even respond to this quarrel. But, I submit that many "christians" have missed the mark in regard to their Teacher's teaching, being more interested in their own self-righteousness than in living a exemplary life. Such a life of love and charity would of itself attract others to follow it, and it wouldn't bicker in newsgroups. A good example says much more than speech.

I think the following scripture makes a good point, that spiritual charity: giving others the benefit of the doubt, allowing others to even be wrong! is of highest importance. (Many substitute "love" for "charity" as stated in the King James Version.)

I Corinthians Chapter 13

Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing. Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;... Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.... And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

I suspect that any religion that does not actively seek converts - buddhism and subud are two examples - fall into this category. If they are not out to convert you then they are indifferent to what you think rather than thinking that you are wrong.

No. They believe that the ultimate goal and the highest state for a human being to attain is Nirvana, which basically means you cease to exist.

Hindus believe in God. Actually, they have thousands of gods, but some of the scripture (i.e. the Bhagavad Gita) seem to hint at the fact that really there's only one god (Krishna) with many facets. It gets complicated.

Hinduism is pretty interesting, but the cow thing is where I draw the line. I'm a firm believer that one's religion ought not to dictate one's dietary habits. I always thought that was the silliest thing about most religions, that certain animals were considered "unclean" or something and you couldn't eat them... mostly these were hygenic laws that no longer have any relevance nowadays. The metaphysics and shit, that's where it's at... not the boring rules; the "God as Santa Claus" syndrome ("He's makin' a list and checkin' it twice, gonna find out who's naughty and nice") is the worst part of Western religions.

Some do, some don't. The stricter group sees Buddha as a teacher, not a god. (It's actually atheistic <is that a word?>) Because of this, it is more of a philosophy than a religion. The other group sees Buddha as a god, along with many other gods. Hope that clears it up.

Thanks Daniel, appreciate the info. Speaking of interesting religions, has anyone heard of the Baha'i Faith before? I don't know all that much about them myself, but I do know that have a very interesting idea which they use to explain the existence of other religions. This idea is called "progressive revelation", and it goes something like this: in the early stages of history, man was a pretty simple fellow. He didn't really need that many moral guidelines, because he simply wasn't that advanced a creature. So God sends him Moses and the ten commandments, whcih suit his needs well; then man becomes more sophisticated, he creates great civilizations, and becomes pretty impressed with himself, but he also creates new moral problems that his old set of moral guidelines fail to address adequately. To ease his confusion, God sends down a new prophet (Jesus in this case) with a new set of moral code that has more relevance for man's level of advancement. And man is happy once again. But then man advances even further, building even greater civilizations, producing great works of art, making advances in sciences, in ethics, etc... to the point where he needs a new moral code once again; in the meantime the old religion becomes old and corrupt until it no longer has any relelvance; and so yet a new religion is sent down (Islam), which man accepts and uses in place of his old religion. Then he advances to the point where he needs a new religion once again - by now you can see the pattern. Anyway, the Baha'is believe that in fact man has reached that stage in his advancement where the religions of old are no longer relevant to him; he needs a new set of moral guidelines to help him with the the more sophisticated moral issues of his high-tech, advanced society. They believe further that their religion is in fact the one for this age. I don't know, it might be a crock, but I still thought an interesting "crock" nonetheless.

I think the reason that "there are no athiests in the foxholes" (if this is true, which it is not - I have had to dig and sit in a foxhole before and I am agnostic, which you would claim athiests since you don't care to understand) anyways, I think that there are no athiests in the foxholes because only Christians want to rule the world and steal land and willing to kill for it.

Kill First Take Land then, Ask for Forgiveness.

Does any of these Chrisitians read a history book, or does the bible answer all the questions for them. Because it really only led me to more questions and more books, which I am thankful for. Because then I could logically understand that the bible was written to set down some good neighborly laws and give about 5% of the historical facts. All the rest of it is either parables, fables or myths. If Jesus was so important and he died in 30 BC why was nothing written about him for the next half a century?

Spare me the American history lesson, red-coat. Go watch another boring episode of "East-enders" on the "tube".

Oh you're a "Norveeegian" are you? You're even less significant than the Limeys. At least they have a history. I mean, who the hell outside of Oslo knows anything about Norway? I mean, "British Honduras" has a more interesting history than Norway; "Trinidad and Tobago" wields more geo-political influence than Norway. The only thing I know about Norway is Henrik Ibsen. And what the hell did he ever do? His plays are the reason prozac was invented. They are so damn dreary and depressing. In fact, I'm going to end this converstaion right now, because I could be spending my time constructively bashing some Limey hotshot rather than shooting the breeze with some insignificant, waste of good oxygen Viking wanna-be.

why do they call it "feeding the trolls"? trolling refers to that form of fishing where you are moving or something, leaving a line and waiting for something stupid enough (i know, i know, i'm stupid enough) to bite. so, when you reply to a troll, you aren't feeding him by tossing him some scraps of attention, you're pulling on his line. now that i think about it, "dont feed the trolls" could mean something like "dont bite that hook, because then you get eaten", although trolls (at least these kinds) dont hunt for food, but rather for sport. the axiom should read very simply, "don't bite"

DaveKrinkle

In a less literal sense, "Don't feed the trolls" means "Don't provide the trolls with further ammunition."

Why in the ER last night did we have to try and repair a crushed esophagus on a three month old infant? While her dad's choking hand prints were still visable on her throat?

Ben Allen, [email]

ok, I understand that, everyone wants to know why things like that happen, but I am not God, there are some things that He keeps secret, which will be revealed to his ppl eventually, but I don't have all the answers. God did not make that happen, He gives all of us free will, He does not force anyone to do anything. There is a reason for everything, but not all of it is for us to know now. Jesus walked this earth because the people cried out for someone that they could see who would come and make things all better, but when He did come, they rejected him and did not believe He was the answer, and eventually hung him on the cross to die, and He accepted all of it, all of the pain for us, He did not have to. And what if He were to do the same thing again in this generation......they would still not believe, they would laugh and call him nuts, even though He would preform miracles, they would call it "magic" He would be just another guy thinking He's God.There is so much I could say......but this post is longer than the other one-ok,I'm done. Thank you for reading.......

just a few questions i have, why would god give me a "gift" and then condemn me for using it? i try to believe in god, it would definately make the world a happier place if there was a purpose to it all, but i cant stand sitting through church listening to blatent brainwashing. "we SHALL give him thanks and praise" "it is GOOD to give him thanks and praise" they drone on and on in a monotone voice like the fucking borg collective. any deviant thoughts would be instantly condemned for daring to exist in paralell to their own. i hear this, and i see little kids copying their parents and basically being brainwashed. did they make a conscous decision to become catholic? no, it was thrust upon them. i imagine a child being raised by satanists, being similarly brainwashed. would god allow such a deviant soul into his heaven? was it that child's fault he was brainwashed? does a catholic who is catholic merely because they were brainwashed into believing in catholicism really believe in god? thats not faith, thats mental slavery. if you saw a train heading for a blind man, and you let it hit him, aren't you responsible for his death? if god is omniscient, and knows all that will happen, then that kind of factors out free will, doesn't it? if i am about sin, and he doesn't stop me, it means he let me, and wanted me to sin. i'm into chemistry and all, and when i look at someone, i see a mass of chemicals that obeys a specific set of rules. when you burn hydrogen in air, you ALLWAYS get water. when you breath carbon dioxide over calcium ions in water, you ALLWAYS get calcium carbonate (limestone flakes floating in the water). once the big bang was set in motion, destiny was completely laid out, and randomness is completely out of the question. so how is anything anyone's fault? as scott adams put it, you spend most of your life rationalizing the mindless act you just involuntaraly comitted.

i am a very depressed person, and it's shows like south park that keep me from even realizing that i have the capacity for suicide. i desperately want to believe in god, but my intelligence, and my experience, and my views of the world keep me from seeing a possibility of an omnipotent being.

no, wait. one possibility remains, but is highly unlikely: god is just chillin' around space, and says to himself - " 'me' am i bored, i wish there were little 'me's around who would slowly become adjusted to their surroundings, and then i could really let 'em have it! wow, am i smart." and we are a little science experiment of god's, in his little petre' dish, where he toys with our lives uncaringly, to justify his own unknown origins. he denies proof of himself, and gives people the option to stray, and then hits them with eternity in hell for confusedly following a "wrong" path. he allready knows the out come, he allready tallied the score, but he will not in mercy allow the pain to stop, and he drags out our suffering for his own little soap opera.

damn, i've gone and depressed myself again. gotta go pop in an old ep of south park to get my mind off the meaninglessness of life....

The other day I saw a "HONK IF YOU LOVE JESUS" bumper sticker. So I bought it and put it on the rear bumper of my car.

I'm really glad I did. What an uplifting experience followed!

I was stopped at a traffic light at a busy intersection; just lost in thought about the Lord. I didn't notice that the light had changed. That bumper sticker really worked. I found lots of people who love Jesus! Why, the guy behind me started to honk like crazy. He must really love the Lord because pretty soon he leaned out of his window and yelled "Jesus Christ" as loud as he could. It was like a football game as he shouted, "Go, Jesus Christ, go!" Everyone else started honking too, so I leaned out my window and waved as I smiled at all those loving people.

There must have been a guy from Florida back there somewhere because I could hear him yelling something about a "sunny beach" and I saw him waving in a funny way with only his middle finger stuck in the air.

I asked my kids what that meant. They grinned and, looking at each other, told me it was a Hawaiian good luck sign. So I leaned out the window and gave him the good luck sign back.

A very nice Black man several cars behind me stepped out of his car and yelled something. I couldn't hear him very well but it sounded like "mother trucker" or "mother from there." Maybe he was from Florida too. He must really love the Lord.

A couple of people became so caught up in the joy of the moment that they got out of their cars and walked toward me. I bet they wanted to pray, but jut then I noticed the light had changed to yellow. So quickly I stepped on the gas. And it's a good thing I did because I was the only driver to get across the intersection.

I looked back at them standing there. Leaning way out of my window, I gave them all a big smile and held up the Hawaiian good luck sign as I drove away.

Praise the Lord for such wonderful people.

The author finds things to object to in virtually every mid-1970's TV series you can think of, as well as Sesame Street, Happy Days, Porky Pig, The Flintstones, The Jetsons.

A psycho-Christian would have a ball with the new wave of WB 'toons: Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain, Slappy Squirrel, Buttons, etc.

Lessee: Animaniacs teach rude behavior, wanton violence, and disobedience.

Wakko Warner promotes atrocious eating habits.

Dot Warner, by cooing "I'm *cute*!" does more to promote the sexualization of children than Britney Spears ever could.

Pinky and the Brain: Homosexuals living in sin. Words like "narf" and "poit" must be codenames for acts of sodomy and perversion. Why do you think they brought Elmira in? To distract the viewers, of course.

"Little Gay Brain's Big Gay Science Experiment," anyone?

Slappy Squirrel: An unmarried older woman. Obviously a lesbian.

Buttons and Mindy: Mindy is neglected by her parents, and Buttons is a surrogate guardian. Teaches children to abandon their responsibilities.

Not to mention Bert and Ernie LIVE TOGETHER!!

While we're on the subject of people finding objectionable things in children's cartoons and such, has anyone heard of the hyper-conservative watch dog group that found out the priest in The Little Mermaid gets a boner when the Sea Witch and Prince Eric are about to get married by watching it frame by frame? A friend of mine's mother once thought there was some sort of subtle double-entendre in the They Might Be Giants song "Cowtown". Presumably she saw filth in the line "Oh I'm _going down_ to Cowtown, the cow's a friend to me."

Extra-amusing, since she never so much as raised an eyebrow at the DEVO albums we were listening to at the time.

But don't they sleep in separate beds? Could that matter?

I don't know about his religious fundaments, but The Count *is* a fully diagnosable Obsessive Compulsive. Instead of taking advantage of his affliction for so many years, the folks at the Children's Television Workshop should have tried to get him help. That sort of mental disorder can be debilitating, and yet they all stood by for all this time and did nothing.

I think there was a Disney cartoon from a few years ago, where a disgruntled animator inserted real pictures of nude women right into the scenes. I think it was "The Rescuers". If you watch it frame by frame, there's a scene where they show a building in the background and there are nude women in the windows.

Or something like that.

Yes! I remember seeing a webpage for that about a year or so ago. There was also a group of African Americans that were highly offended by the short Disney film called Song of the South because it featured a slave (Uncle Remus) in it. Song of the South is based on the ride Splash Mountain in the Magic Kingdom and they left out the part of the story in which Brer Fox and Brer Bear make a tar baby (which is a racial slut) to fool Brer Rabbit with.

~Starla

DaveStarla

Was "tar baby" a racial slur when the Uncle Remus stories were first written? Or maybe that story was what turned "tar baby" into a racial slur?

Anyway, I had always thought that those were based on actual stories told by slaves to their children in the first place. So Disney animates tham and people get offended? Maybe that's what brought it to the attention of the potentially offended?

Look everyone. Edwina, the Bible-thumping basketcase is back.

For those of you who weren't here the last time she decided to try to take on alt.tv.southpark, here's a snippet from one of her posts circa 10/30/97 concerning the "Cartman gets Pinkeye" episode:

"The people responsible have never publicly apologized for ridiculing Jesus. Unfortunately, it seems to be politically correct these days to bash the religion that founded this country. Dressing this Cartmen character as both a Nazi and a KKK member will be their undoing though! This offends groups who are active in stopping this sort of flagrant disrespect. Enjoy the show, folks. It's days are numbered."

Hey Eddie? When you said the show's days were numbered, you didn't mention they numbered in the thousands. LOL.

Anyway, Edwina's trolling prompted this reference in the first alt.tv.southpark FAQ written by 'Reverend Bob':

"B - Edwina Roberts

Edwina was the first major troll to come to alt.tv.southpark. Spouting Christian dogma left and right while promising us all that her group had taken 'actions', and that the show would soon be off the air. Obviously, South Park still goes strong, and 'Edwina' has had 'her' trolly nature revealed. Edwina also goes by klueless, B e n j y C o m p s o n, Carla Spears and Carlton Spears. So if you a post by any of these people, take it with a grain of salt."

I hope those of you who had never experienced an Edwina Roberts post before will have gained a little insight. It's probably best to let her rant until it's out of her system, then POOF she'll disappear for another year or so.

Or until Parker and Stone offend her mightily once again.

You do have one thing right, we all do have a choice. That is how God, or whoever you believe in, made it. We are all responsible for our own actions, and if we have to answer to a higher power, it will be by ourselves. No lawyers, court reporters. just us and the big guy. I know that I am not the only Christian that watches and enjoys South Park for what it is. ENTERTAINMENT. And, if I'm not mistaken here, the sarcasm was the whole point of the movie and the show.

ROFLMAO! Who's writing the books? I call the Book Of Cartman!

Cartman 1:1-1:9 1 In the beginning, Trey and Matt created South Park, North Park, and all other parks. 2 And with the parks came Stanley Marsh, Kyle Broslofski, and Eric Cartman. 3 Also came Kenny McCormick, destined to die many horrible deaths. 4 Many others came, among them 5 and some were evil, while some were good. 6 The good include Jerome McElroy, and Randy Marsh. 7 The list of the evil could go on for centuries, but the most evil include the following: 8 Shelly Marsh, and Sheila Broslofski. 9 And recognizing the bitchiness of the latter, the great Eric Cartman blessed us with this melody.

Cartman 1:10-1:24 have already been posted. (Kyle's mom is a bitch) How did I do for writing Cartman 1?

You seem to have everything. Except the respect of the Usenet community.

Hey, group? Am I the only one who keeps thinking of the Lily Tomlin character in the Steve Martin movie, "All of Me" whenever one of Edwina (Cutwater)'s posts show up?

It seems to be what you do best. Surely you only do this so you can bear the brunt of others' mirth. Why else would you be here instead of in one of the newsgroup created for religious discussion? I know you believe in god, but I'm wondering if you believe in psychology. A therapist can help you in ways that god can't. And they only want money, not your soul.

Like being universally scorned? Admit it. You like it. It tests your faith.

But 'sacrilegious' is contextual. You're a bible thumper, I'm not. We have different opinions on what constitutes sacrilege and what doesn't. You really must stop assuming that your opinion is correct. It's becoming tiresome.

This one's too contrived to comment on.

Can't you see we've made our choices already?

You're asking people to vote AFTER they've left the booth. Think.

It's now the 20th highest grossing movie of 1999 and the show was renewed for another season.

Maybe we should go back to publicly flogging people who don't attend church on Sunday, and branding a B (for "blasphemy") in the foreheads of anyone who expresses a non-Christian belief. That's why this country was founded.

We must, in the name of Jesus, make Christianity the official religion of the United States. We must pass a constitutional amendment to make it a crime to desecrate an American flag or a Bible. That would make this a real good country!

Edwina,

Let me get this straight, you find your son watching a videotape of South Park, so you join the newsgroup. If your son got caught watching a pornographic movie, do you then join their newsgroup? I don't understand your Logic, but your humor is awesome. Real Harm = real funny!

Forgiveness is a human attribute, God has no personifications of humanness, if it is omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient. Do you understand that? If the being did exist, which I don't think that it does, but if it did, then by what is written in the Bible - it would not be an all-forgiving God, you are talking about a creature that burned up the whole town of Sodom and Gomorrah and turn Lot's wife into a pillar of salt because she looked back (in disgust, I can only presume). And I am not sure if you have read any history books, but look what organized religion has done in the past 2000 years. Just take a quick look, it is not pretty is it? Pretty horrific, huh? All in the Lord's name.

Blasphemy! How _dare_ you place mere mortal measurements over the word of the LORD GOD Himself?!

A world with out pi? Hmmm.... You know on starry nights when I look deep into the past of our universe, I think to myself; are we all alone; could all of this be here without pi. Doesn't the existence of pi imply a pi-maker? And then, inspired by the beauty of what I see, influenced by the evolution of an aesthetic sense, the answer comes to me in a flash: No!

Nah, bullshit. What you're forgetting is that evolution is TRUE. Why should I have to tolerate someone else's stupid beliefs when they're fucking wrong?

Look, 2+2 is 4, and I am NOT going to respect some asshole's beliefs if he tells me that 2 and 2 makes 5 because HIS GOD TOLD HIM SO, or because some holy scripture says it somewhere. (OK, this is a cheap piece o' rhetoric, but so what?) You believe in the literal word of everything in the Bible (or ANY book for that matter)? Sorry, dickhead, you're WRONG.

I still don't understand what the conflict is between creationism and evolution. You still need a prime mover to set the wheels in motion, so even science hasn't chucked God out the window. Not at all, actually! It's not like the Universe just popped up one day, folks...

TRUE or not isn't the point of being free to do and say what you believe in. You don't have to tolerate their ideas. No one said you did. But I think that you should tolerate their right to believe what they want to believe. You are free to disagree with me, and you don't have to tolerate the idea that you have to tolerate the rights of others to their own beliefs, but if you don't, then why should the rest of us tolerate your belief that you don't have to tolerate our rights?

Oh, well I wasn't sure before, but now that you've cursed, I can really see the point of your argument, that makes it so much clearer and I really respect you alot more now. But I suspect, that if a person doesn't want to respect the rights of others, for which see above, then you won't really care if other people respect you, right? Is that the worst word that you can say? Double WRONG on you.

Can you prove that? No? You weren't there? You don't know? You've never actually seen god? A moment ago you sounded so certain. You want to change your mind? Oh. Ok.

Maybe you should try a basic physics course. If you can manage to respect the right of the teachers to their opinions. Now repeat after me: "Matter and Energy are interchangeable."

Yeah, yeah, I know that this seems to have nothing to do with Southpark, but logic and physics are really central to BL&U. After all without physics and logic how could Satan yearn to live under blue skies? How could we figure out to blame? How could T&P get electrocuted? How could we ever find that giant... Oh never mind, I didn't want to put a spoiler in here.

Or maybe the whole thing is about politics? Is that how they got around that nasty censorship thing that is destroying the country?

I traded in my brain for a Bible; I avoided Hell's eternal flame When I traded in my brain for a Bible; I highly recommend you do the same.>>

Ahh...but then they'd argue that your *neighbors* are fellow uptight, straight-laced, so-called "Christians" who take great pleasure in judging every bloody thing that dares cross their path. Believe me, I've tired to tell them that before and they just have *all* the answers and they're *always* correct. *rolls her eyes* Oh, and you know about "judge not lest *yet be judged*" and all that nice stuff? Well apparently, I've been told that they can judge *righteously* (translation: whenever the hell they see fit to judge something or someone, dammit). They think all that "do not point out the speck of dust in your brothers eye before you remove the plank out of your own eye" and "judge not" is too warm 'n' fluffy and want more fire and brimstone in their preachings so that they can scare more people into joining their ranks; which is a bunch of utter bullshit.

~Starla "...is that like finding Jesus?" ;-)

I must have viewed the movie in a totally different light than the Focus on the Family fake Christian ass fucks. The main theme that I came away with is for parents to pay attention to what they're children say, want, and need--something that a group called Focus on the Family should commend. So, as I know somebody before me said, fuck 'em

An accurate review. It *was* vile and vulgar, and Parker and Stone freely admit that was the goal.

But notice how the review is attempting to show if there are any redeeming qualities in the movie. They of course say no, and they are, for the most part, correct. These types of "reviews" aren't really about how good the movie is. Reviews like these won't get past uncomfortable subject matter in movies, and therefore label the movie as "bad". A movie can be about bad, digusting subjects, and still be good. South Park is vulgar and vile, but is funny as hell. I loved every second of it, but even I cringed at some of the humor, and was shocked the movie went to some of the places it did.

If there's anything I hate, it's people who think videogames, rock music, junk food, anything on TV/ in the movies/on the net that contains the slightest innuendo of sex, violence, drug use, or words like "damn", "bitch"(really stupid because it's a real word!), and "sex" are "bad", "evil", "not wholesome"! And they've been really bad lately about toy guns just because a few kids were stoopid enough to bust in and shoot everyone, then themselves! I know that there are children who are naive enough to believe what they see on TV and from other sources, and I can understand their situation. But just because some kids are that naive doesn't mean they have to ruin it for those who aren't!! Also, why are they trying to censor everything when kids see all kinds of sex, violence, drugs, and bad language in the real world? Why blame TV, videogames, the net, music, etc for everything? If you ask me, it's just-just-STOOPID!!!!!!! It's fucking stoopid!

All right. I'm done.

It's completely ridiculous. I even heard that Disney World/Land is planning on getting rid of Pirates of the Carribean just because of the gratuitous usage of guns in that particular ride, because they've been getting a ton of heat from all the conservative religious, right-wing groups due to the recent stupid actions of a few obviously mentally ill individuals. If kids can't tell fantasy from reality, then it's their parents fault for not telling them how to discern between the two.

I'll tell ya why -- it's because parents don't want to admit they're wrong and have failed as parents if their children go and, say, shoot up their entire school. Scapegoating and unfairly assigning blame has become rather popular as of late, and I'm begginging to wonder why people can't take responsibility for their *own* actions. I mean, what was Cain's "inspiration" for killing his brother Abel? I wonder what his favorite TV shows were. And why is it that no drive-by shootings and the like aren't blamed on the fact that the criminals may or may not have listened to rap? It is because it's not *PC* or something? Grrrr....

~Starla (feeling very ranty this evening)

sounds like you did your homework......a little too much if you ask me :)Southpark does not only single out a few ethnic, sexually preferenced, religeous groups and religeous figures.......they just plain pick on everyone! Thats the whole point! they do it as to relate to or poke fun at/with these different groups.....whats the world coming to when people are chastised for free speech in the U.S. ? .... remember Bible says: judge not lest ye be judged:).......by the way....i graduated from a Christian School......

P.S. if your offended...dont watch :)~

i want to apologize in advance for my postings, i don't want to upset anyone with my beliefs, i just wanted to share like the rest of you, but without profanity-lol. i enjoy watching SP for certain characters, but from what i've heard about the movie, i don't think i'll be watching that,i may get offended-lol.
